Fifty Pounds Lighter
In 2013 somewhere between The Phoenix Forum and TES, I discovered that not only was I fat but I had moved over into being obese. (Some of you here on GFY were less than nice about it I might add.) So, I went on a diet and starting exercising. For the past two years, every morning I've run, hit the basketball court, and biked twenty miles - nearly every day.
In 2013 I was 255 lbs, and now I am down to 202 lbs. Here on GFY someone in a thread a year ago about military training someone mocked me saying I would never be able to make the minimum requirements for Marine Corps boot camp again. Well, I started training with the local Marine recruiters office two weeks ago in a program designed to make young recruits eligible for boot camp. The running is easy, the sit ups will be difficult, and chin ups will be a huge challenge. |
You were in the military? Next thing you want us to believe is you drove a mustang.

What was your diet like? That's a pretty good workout routine for it to take two years to burn 50 pounds. One hour of biking at that weight is around 1100 cal alone.
Congratulations of course, that's a nice cut, but you must be eating like shit. Work on fixing that next. |
Good for you :thumbsup:thumbsup

for you lazy webmasters out there:

I am looking for slow term, long burn. My goal is to keep the weight off. |
I wasn't aware that you biked or played basketball. What else have you been hiding?

OP Congrats :thumbsup |

I have let myself go once in my life and lost 60 pounds. I will never return to that. People who do not take weight loss seriously need to feel shame in order to change. Being overweight is simply being lazy. It is an excuse and it is disgusting. |

Congratulations my friend!

Good for you, but you may be over-exercising. I couldn't imagine doing 20 miles every day in addition to all the other things. Although, my area is very hilly so 20 miles feels like 40.
You must be taking in a lot of calories to not wither away. But you're right about the long term goal thing. Most people have this mentality of always needing to "lose 10 pounds in a couple of weeks". They fuck their system up and are doomed to repeat it over and over. The trick is to condition your metabolism to prefer burning fat and building muscle, and that takes time. Once I got my body into that state, I've been realizing it would be hard work to actually undo it. Like I would have to stop exercising and eat donuts and ice cream for a few weeks or months. |

Congrats to you man, sometimes feeling disgusted and ashamed of yourself is what's required to hit rock bottom and realize you need to make a change.

The exercise is a fantastic thing, however don't be surprised if you break your coccyx bone one day when you're using it :2 cents: Get a cheap pull up bar, don't take up much room, are far sturdier and offer far more exercises or just go outside and find yourself a tree :thumbsup http://www.ibest9.com/wp-content/upl...ull-Up-Bar.png @ OP Well done Rochard, I started training around the same time as you and have never felt better. You should maybe enter a few 10k (6mile?) runs, they're a lot of fun. |
Excellent!

Just keep up regular exercise and it shouldn't be bad. Putting on weight is easier with age but as long as you are mindful before consuming something and get regular exercise you should be fine. I've got a terrible case of bursitis on my hip, about the only thing I can do now is walk. I can't even ride a bicycle or use an elliptical without a lot of pain. :disgust I may have to start swimming or something else. |
Man pics please... oh and congrats
