Guy who shot down drone had case dismissed

Judge Dismisses Case Against ?Drone Slayer? Who Shot Down Drone From Back Porch - Law Blog - WSJ

So it looks like in this case the judge found that the drone was invading the shooters privacy. This sets an interesting precedent on flying drones low over peoples property.

Thoughts?

Sad. Some nut with an itchy trigger finger shoots down a drone for no reason and gets away with it. Then again, Kentucky.

There are drones flying around in my neighbourhood over the houses and streets, over the river and in the parks, and no one is going apeshit. Others come out to see, ask questions, and end up getting their own drone and enjoying this fun and relaxing hobby, without any fucking guns behind shot off by fucking idiots.

I'm with you. You can build a gps jammer, although its illegal to own.

Seth Manson 10-28-2015 01:27 PM

Another idiot judge, not really anything new.

Bullshit, nobody shoots at a drone that's across the street invading someone else's privacy.
They shoot that shit when it gets close enough to theirs.
Stay the fuck away from people's houses, it's trespassing with a device.
Eavesdropping is illegal and any drone with a microphone can be accused of doing
that when near private property.

The problem with Americans today is that if you create a new toy for them they then invent a whole set of rights that they really don't have because they want to play with the toy.
You know, like how the internet meant people had the right to steal content.

Barry-xlovecam 10-28-2015 01:42 PM

I am not surprised at all ...
I hope it gets appealed into the Federal Courts and sets precedent in the matter ...

If you had a fucking clue -about anything- you'd know that the Phantom drones do not have microphones. What the fuck would you listen to? The loud propellors? You wouldnt hear a damn thing over those.

The cameras are fixed focal length, set for infinity. They do not zoom. They take great landscape pics, but forget getting a closeup. How can you spy without a closeup? You cant fly closer because the propellors are loud and you wouldnt have any stealth. Spying requires stealth.

The pilot produced his flight log downloaded from his drone, showing his GPS track over a map proving that he was not over the shotgun idiot's property. The mentally challenged judge refused to see it. The only hard proof that the drone was not where the shotgun idiot claims it was, and a redneck judge says nope, not gonna look at that.

Once again... the uninformed run amok on GFY. Yes I mean you.

Nope.

The brilliant judge realized that nobody cares about all that shit you just said because
nobody has anyway of knowing any of that until after they have shot it down.
So therein fell his right to shoot it down and ask questions later.

Grow up and stop thinking your new little toy has any fucking rights.

i heard she also went by witness statements rather than looking at the data on the height of the drone.. witness was saying it was below the tree line, data says the drone was way above it

Seth Manson 11-01-2015 05:10 PM

Judge suspended for refusing to hear all the evidence. Police report stated that the shooter had been drinking alcohol, but this was not mentioned in court.

Case will be moving to a grand jury.

Like I said, if you had a clue about anything...
