Romanian nightclub fire leaves 27 dead, 155 injured
BUCHAREST (Reuters) - A fire and explosion in a Bucharest nightclub killed 27 people and injured 155 during a rock concert that featured fireworks late on Friday, Romanian government officials and witnesses said.
In one of the capital's worst disasters in decades, about 400 people, mostly young adults, stampeded for the exit as the club in the basement of a Communist-era factory filled with smoke. Several witnesses said there were fireworks inside the club. Colectiv Club's Facebook page said the show would feature pyrotechnic effects. A pillar and the club's ceiling went up in flames and then there was an explosion and heavy smoke, the witnesses said. "There was a stampede of people running out of the (Colectiv) club," a man who escaped without shoes told Reuters. Romanian nightclub fire leaves 27 dead, 155 injured - Yahoo News |

Fireworks in a nightclub - If I had walked in there and seen that I would have just turned around and left...
I suppose the problem is, would I have walked out 20 years ago? - Not so sure..... |
They've recently closed a few nightclubs down in Torrevieja because of fire regulations, as many clubs haven't fire exits & only have one door in & the same door out. A shame for these Romanian clubbers! RIP :(

I just saw on local TV News an interview with one of the Emergency Intervention Doctors
that have been first on the scene. I can't write down exactly all that she said but what happened there it was a real carnage. Over 300 people injured, around 100+ with severe burns and 25 deaths + two more people in critical condition. " We responded to the 911 call. We thought it's just an ordinary incident, more smoke than fire, maybe some people that suffered from smoke inhaling". When we arrived at the scene we saw a group of firemen getting out from the building with the first two victims. Behind them..others. Crawling, screaming.., some of them with almost no skin on their faces or hands. One of the victims was yelling at me. She was begging us to bring more medics because there are a lot more injured inside, burned , stepped on. I couldn't help myself and i cried. I announced on radio the dispatch to send more medical teams. Soon i was surrounded by injured people, with faces and hands burned, screaming and begging me not to leave them behind and take them to hospital. A fireman came out from the building with a young girl in his arms. She was burned about 98% of her body. She said to me: Take her too. Take her quick to the hospital. She's only 18, i have a daughter the same age! Please save her! More and more victims were taken out of the burning building.I felt sick. My clothes were full of burned skin & blood. The chief fireman was crying while trying to resuscitate a 16yo girl . Next to her 6 more teenagers in cardiopulmonary arrest and my coleagues trying to resuscitate them too. The ambulance driver has been trying to resuscitate the victims till his blood pressure went up and blood came out of his nose. They came out with another kid. He was 17, with 70% burns. The skin basically was falling down from his body. With his eyes in tears he asked me: Am i alive? Am i ok? Is it bad? Mom..am i gonna die?...his body was still smoking." Sorry for the bad translation. It's really shocking what i saw today on TV. RIP to all victims. |

This is very sad news I have also partied a lot in various abandoned buildings, in the forest, and in various industrial locations but never had to deal with a fire. However this was in the basement of a former communist era factory so I am wondering if they think that is "hip" or whatever. Many people seem to think mass murder by communists is something too party about and delight in. Plus the name of the club is "The Collectiv" so I guess they really are into the "communist mass murder being hip" thing.
