Buying power.

Over $6 billion will be spent on getting into power during this run of US elections. This runs from the bottom to the top of the US democratic system.

The Money Behind the Elections.

Donor Demographics.

This one clearly shows who's buying power. Mr Average isn't funding the people who makes the big decisions that govern his life.

In Europe it's no better. The EU is slowly coming under the control of big business driven by the ease of doing business. Yet for Mr Average in all the the economic EU power houses. Life is getting worse, for those below that level it's getting very bad. Come the British EU IN or OUT referendum the big money will quietly be behind the IN campaign, they have to keep it quiet as Mr Average will vote OUT if big money is too blatant. It will be there though.

We need big business, but not big business that exports jobs and buys power over the rest of us.

This is what everyone means when they say we've become a plutocracy. And. once these wealthy people buy enough Congressmen to do away with inheritance tax we will be well on our way to a ruling class. Something our Founders, and all the brave souls that went on rickety boats, came to America to avoid. Instead of opportunity, these plutocrats will limit that to their own class. With schools too expensive for the hoi poilloi and a return to the monopolistic practices that TR broke up. We're even seeing a return of the spoils system that begot the rank corruption, that is the base on which any plutocracy is built.

i really want to see proof for this someday.

Almost every single person I know personally is doing better today than 5 or 10 years ago.

And what does worse mean - that is was bad before?

this is bullshit propaganda - that's all.

That is because people ten to do better with time/age.

You should compare for example 30 year olds of today with 30 year olds of 10 years ago.

Not 40 year olds of today with 30 year olds of 10 years ago.

I am not taking any sides there, just pointing out what should be compared when seeing if times are worse or better.

Conservatives need this narrative to be out there. Otherwise why would anyone vote for them?

The true narrative is that they always come in and fuck shit up for a few years making their buddies rich (and starting wars) -- then a democrat comes in to clean up their mess.

i know plenty 20+ year olds here that finished their studies and started their first jobs

it is nonsense that we're all doing all so bad and it's getting only worse

there is a high unemployment among young people in southern european countries - but that is mainly due to local governments and laws

smart people then go somewhere else, Brno is full of Italians, Portuguese, Spanish etc that get jobs instantly here and get paid better here in CZ than in their home countries.

no one can fucking sell me that we're all doomed to live under bridges soon

The problem of any Government being bought is that the buyers will force Governments to make them richer. Leaving the poor well behind and eventually the lower middle classes. Then as jerkules points out we become ruled by an elite few. Back to the days when kings and queens ruled, or the very very wealthy, ending in revolution.

That won't happen in a Democracy, the people will vote out the "bought" politicians, maybe for a bunch of left wing clowns like Corbyn. By the time it does happen, China will be the number one power in the world. Because the 1% decided it was cheaper to have goods made in the Third world, ruled by dictators, than at home by their own countrymen.

Leaders like Merkel are very keen on bringing in Third World workers, to undercut the wages of Germans. The falling population excuse doesn't hold water.

The UK just witnessed the Chinese leader being begged for more trade, so that some of the business the West has handed over to them, comes back. Does this stupidity help the people who once relied on manufacturing for a job, or the 1%?

Look around you and see what was made in the US. You might be gone for a while. And if you believe China won't start taking what's left. You're in for a surprise.

Are Governments ruled by an elite few, protecting those at the bottom. Other than giving them just enough to ward off starvation?

So why is poverty increasing?

As for that being right wing propaganda, we have different theories on what the right and left stand for.

everyone can interpret stats as he likes

Quote:

The poverty threshold was calculated at 892 euros a month for a single household
that is higher than the average income in Czech Republic while groceries, clothes, electronics etc. are cheaper in Germany than in CZ on average

meanwhile CZ is officially the EU country with the lowest poverty rate and we both know that you'd rather be welfare recipient in Germany than here in CZ

The reason why there is so much money getting into politics is because we have given government so many powers over us, which makes those powers attractive to money... Unfortunately we will then try to fix this by giving government even MORE power, which will further the corruption, etc. If government didnt have certain powers that someone wanted to control, then they wouldn't bother wasting money trying to buy it...

But in any case, to the doom and gloomers... 5 Reasons Why 2013 Was The Best Year In Human History | ThinkProgress
