I can give you the answers in regards to card processing (debit and credit). If you go for IPSP (3rd party billing) you can obtain somewhere between 15 and 10, 9% depending on your volume plus a transaction fee. There are some even more expensive solutions. Option 2 is a gateway with your own merchant account that starts with something around 6.5, 6% and goes down with the increase of your volume. Plus a transaction fee. SecurionPay (gateway) starts from 4.9% and 0.35 euro per translation. Hopefully some BTC providers will be able to provide their percentages. |
I meant as far as total sales percentages of actual sales, not processing rates? Like Visa 75%, MC 15%, check 9%, bitcoin 1% etc?

I am sure precise report about that actually exists and it should be splitted per country. In general cards still have the major chunk of the global market (with Visa leading) but the split can be totally different if looked at specific country. Just to give you the example of Germany: everyone has cards with a bank account number on it. The system is called Lastschrift. It represents as high as 80% of the German market. Cards and mobile would be the remaining part. Checks are popular in the USA. BTC is has super low penetration at this point. |
Thanks for the follow up! What would you say for USA sites?

I meant to put Paypal in the list, also include Paypal sales if you are with Epoch

Anyone have some basic % numbers?
|
85-90% of our Paysite sales (globally) coming from credit cards sales (VISA/MC/Regional Cards) - here are no breaks by specific card brand
Remaining 10-15% from other sources (checks, phone, "new payment methods") |
Hi,
For adult sales - Visa, Mastercard, Discover and JCB are 95% of sales. Visa is about 65, Mastercard is about 30'and the others about 5% for US adult sales with ACH being the rest in our NETbilling gateway. It is different for mainstream ecommerce and retail of course. |

What he said... :thumbsup Above sounds about right and numbers may vary a bit for European or other non us regions. Especially in southern European countries like Greece, Spain etc. Credit cards are less common to use and people tense to go for mobile payment solutions instead for example. But then again, I think it's still around 90% from all sales that is coming from the US. Bitcoin is still small but we see more and more interest for it. A lot of webmasters nowadays ask about this and showing more interest. But it's the end user who still is not used to it. |
