Do you think it's time the Democratic Party make Reparations part of its original platform?

The recent Bernie Sanders controversy around reparations brings up this issue: is it time for the Democrats to stop beating around the bush and formally adopt reparations for slavery as part of its official platform?

Bernie Sanders Struggles To Defend Reparations Stance To Black Voters

Remember when people were just expected to go to work and pay their own way? Now we have almost a whole social class that wont work because they just want to be lazy and depend on handouts and entitlements. And then they bitch and complain about their social status.

But what about Historic injustice?

I'm not advocating a position for or against reparations. What I would like to bring up is the fact there is an increasingly vocal and sizable element on the left side of American politics that is saying the TIME IS NOW for black reparations.

Do they have point?

Reparations should have been paid in the late 1800's just a few decades after the official end of slavery. Similar to when Ronald Reagan paid reparations to the living Japanese people who were forced into internment camps.

But in regards to black people, this reparations issue has lingered over 150 years. IMO, it's too expensive, and too difficult to trace ancestry, to implement.

nope....tons of immigrants were indentured slaves and you don't hear any talk of reparations for them.
Obama is done....handouts are done.

Why would the time be now? I'm pretty sure that everyone that was a slave or owned a slave during the time that slavery was legal in this country is dead now. Maybe the time was in 1865 when it became illegal.

So to answer your question... No, I do not think they have a point.

Well if a black could trace ancestry back to a slave, then that black person would have a claim for any possible reparation. Because that black would be an heir of a slave.

Are they gonna break off money for all those of Irish decent too? Or shall we continue forgetting about that part of the slave trade.

Yes please. I have Irish ancestry and I demand some money.

The Irish Slave Trade ?? The Forgotten ??White? Slaves

Also, anyone who has ancestral roots in any territory conquered by the Romans likely had ancestors who were enslaved by them. Get your asses to Rome and claim your windfall!

And the African Americans shouldn't just stop at claiming reparations from the US. They should also hit up the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and the Arab countries.

Arab slave trade

Quote:

Arab slave trade was the practice of slavery in the Arab world, mainly in Western Asia, North Africa, Southeast Africa, the Horn of Africa and certain parts of Europe (such as Iberia and Sicily) beginning during the era of the Muslim conquests and continuing into the early second half of the 20th century.[1] The trade was conducted through slave markets in the Middle East, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, with the slaves captured mostly from Africa's interior.
Then the African Americans should head to west Africa and hit up those governments for some cash because most of the slaves sent to the Americas were captured and sold to slave traders by their own people.

Atlantic slave trade

Quote:

The Atlantic slave trade or transatlantic slave trade took place across the Atlantic Ocean from the 15th through to the 19th centuries. The vast majority of those enslaved that were transported to the New World, many on the triangular trade route and its Middle Passage, were West Africans from the central and western parts of the continent sold by other western Africans to western European slave traders, with a small minority being captured directly by the slave traders in coastal raids, and brought to the Americas.
And don't forget to hit up all of the Caribbean island nations and South American countries including Bernie Sanders favourite commune of Cuba.

Quote:

Far more slaves were taken to South America than to the north. The South Atlantic and Caribbean economic system centered on producing commodity crops, and making goods and clothing to sell in Europe, and increasing the numbers of African slaves brought to the New World.
Looks like lots of people are about to win the "lottery".

Isn't it better to improve the world today with equality for all, and then see how the genes, good luck, bad luck, your fucked up past, and also hard work, works out for US?
