'An Unique' or 'A Unique' - It's Early...

I need more coffee - If you follow the rules it should be 'An unique feature' - It sounds very wrong though - I am writing this on behalf of somebody else - So I don't want them to sound as stupid as I obviously am...

Then I suggest you outsource the job to a 3rd world country. :2 cents:

And the answer is?..

I like that you even gave me 2 cents to pay him - Thanks.....

ReggieDurango 02-29-2016 11:47 PM

It's "a unique" since the "U" starts with a "Yu" sound

That's twice the going rate. The other half is for your aggravation.

I'm not going to pay you AND provide the answer.

Well that was a waste of time - He said - "Mr EddyTheDog Sir, It can be whatever makes you happy sir..." - That's half a cent I wont be getting back...

I negotiated on the price BTW.....

A unique is the one to go with.

PaperstreetWinston 03-01-2016 02:22 AM

A unique - A and AN is not a rule applied to the written, its for the sound of the spoken

That's correct, but personally I would write it with "an". I know it's wrong, but I'm used to write it like that :)

That's true but how do you explain "an hotel"?

Actually it should be written as "a hotel" :2 cents:

CurrentlySober 03-01-2016 06:20 AM

A

The Rule is Not "A" Before Consonants and "An" Before Vowels

'An Hotel' or 'A Hotel': Which One Should You Use?

I think an hotel and a hotel are both technically correct but I could be wrong. Why "an hotel"? I guess for the same reason one would use "an historic event" - depends on how you say hotel I guess?

Example: Most Americans says erb while Brits say herb. An erb vs A herb and An 'otel vs A hotel ....

Fuck it, I'm foreign, I don't know ....

A hotel, an hotel?

Two peoples separated by a common language USA/UK

I generally use 'a' but an HTML page sounds correct to my ear ...

ilnjscb 03-01-2016 09:13 AM

university, unique, Unitarian, unit, and the fashion choice of many on this board, unitard all have the yew sound, and they all go with "a". When U is "uh" like underpass, undershirt, ugly bitch, they go with "an"

I wonder if some of you made it past the 5th grade.

Education is a tool of the patriarchy so use which ever one you want, OP.

SilentKnight 03-02-2016 08:58 PM

Another vote for 'a unique'.

"It's a unique situation."

Doesn't sound right if said, "It's an unique situation."
