The story of Paul Le Roux - Guy behind E4M, TrueCrypt

Sounds too crazy. According to Wikipedia, Paul Le Roux, Stole the source from Securstar.

Quote:

Original release of TrueCrypt was made by anonymous developers called "the TrueCrypt Team".[9] Shortly after version 1.0 was released in 2004, the TrueCrypt Team reported receiving emails from Wilfried Hafner, manager of SecurStar, a computer security company.[10] According to the TrueCrypt Team, Hafner claimed in the emails that the acknowledged author of E4M, developer Paul Le Roux, had stolen the source code from SecurStar as an employee.[10] It was further stated that Le Roux illegally distributed E4M, and authored an illegal license permitting anyone to base derivative work on the code and distribute it freely. Hafner alleges all versions of E4M always belonged only to SecurStar, and Le Roux did not have any right to release it under such a license.
Then I found this story. If you are in stories of drug dealers, criminals, and contract killings, enjoy.

Believe me or now, but today when I woke up and went to a balcony for a Cohiba with a morning cup of espresso, for some unknown reason I thought about TrueCrypt and the story about his author(s). What happened to him/them and why? And now I see this thread. Very amusingly...

Securstar sounds like a joke company if they can't protect even their own software.

Believe it or not last night after I brushed my teeth with my gold toothbrush while wearing my 17th century silk robe I noticed that my Bugatti had a bit of flat tire. While thinking that I also thought of TrueCrypt and Paul. No, not Le Roux Paul, but Paul Markham. How strange I thought.

in 90's he (Paul) used some parts of the code that he created for that company in his other, open source projects

Means that Securstar can't control their employees.

What makes you think that the its the same "Paul Le Roux" in both stories?

I only skimmed through the story, but I kind of doubt it that the same person is a 9-5 developer in the daytime, and an international crime kingpin at night.

I haven't read all the articles yet. Part 3 talks about E4M and TrueCrypt.

I agree, The whole story seems a little too crazy. I read everything with skepticism today.

klinton 04-21-2016 02:22 PM

he developed true crypt in late 90's - early 2000's.
he started his online pharma businesses around 2004.
from 2007 he started to become real Kingpin with killings, arms dealing etc.
they describe him as lone crime genius, yet maybe he was connected with more powerful guys...and that changed him
