TV's: "The Big Bang Theory" what happened?

When and why did they turn this charming funny show into a whiny, melodramatic, boring soap opera?

Every time I see the show it's full of sad moody characters crying about relationships.

They jumped the shark about a year ago and nobody told 'em.

Turned into The Big Fizzle

It started when Penny cut her hair and stopped working at the Cheesecake Factory.

The show has always been about relationships.... Leonard and Penney, Sheldon and Amy, Howard and Bernadette, and then Rajesh and what ever piece of ass he can get.

I still think it's funny.

I also like Modern Family.

I think you mean "Now the show is about relationships...." not 'always.'

In the first couple seasons the guys were trying to get laid and having comedic adventures, but now they are all saddled and turned into whiny boring bitches. Such is life. I guess nothing good lasts forever.

Yeah as soon as I saw the short hair I knew they were done. LOL Some chicks can pull that look off but this Cuoco chick has a dyke-y dogface.

But they know they fucked up. Now they have Penny saying she hates her job making 200k and wants to quit and go back to working as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory. Totally believeable.

:repuke

fact is most shows can't go beyond 2-3 seasons. after that, god knows what kind of lame shit they will attempt to keep it going. even then, the biggest thing the show had going for it in the early seasons was just penny being hot. sure, it was funny sometimes too but how many geek jokes can you make? personally i prefer silicon valley to big bang theory but in the early seasons penny was some nice eye candy.

Penny24Seven 04-21-2016 08:27 PM

They lost an average of a million viewers in season 8. They had been going up and up and took a small dive. I don't see season 9 stats out yet

Spunky 04-21-2016 08:29 PM

It went to shit after Penny cut off her hair

2MuchMark 04-21-2016 08:50 PM

I read somewhere that the actress who plays Penny negotiated her way into becoming the highest paid actor on the show, and in the deal her character was to become smarter and more mature hence her entrance into the pharma industry. I guess she didn't want to be typcast as the typical Tv-show dumb blonde.

Yup, women ruin everything that's for sure. :D

MartinCamsPower 04-22-2016 06:22 AM

since they got really popular the income is more important than the quality

Bladewire 04-22-2016 06:33 AM

When they started raising her public profile and the public found out what a controlling loopy mother the horse face actress is things went downhill. :2 cents:

it always sucked, i really didnt understand what all the hype was about. Cookie cutter boring sitcom. And in general, you cannot add drama to comedies, it's a mix that does not work.

Proof: Seinfeld, funniest sitcom ever made. Everything was being made fun of, no drama whatsoever. Loved that show.

More recent brilliant comedy shows (also again without soap opera drama) are Workaholics and Its always sunny. These are hilarious.

Every comedy with drama sucks because that means it is taking itself serious. Which is killing for comedy.

ruff 04-22-2016 07:49 AM

Maybe they should have paid the show's writers more. That's a thought.

2MuchMark 04-22-2016 08:21 AM

I still watch it from time to time and when I do I still find it really funny. I've just mostly lost interest in it, since (ugh, this is so strange), Penny cut her hair. She went from cute / funny / sexy to just one of the guys on the show. Not that her sex appeal was the only reason to watch, but my interest in the show dropped at the very same time she did the chop.

Joshua G 04-22-2016 08:42 AM

So basically converting penny from not pc, to pc, killed the show. The gutter PC ideology claims another victim
Rip big bang.

From day one the show has been about Leonard trying to get with Penney. Now that Leonard is with Penney, they've introduced other relationships. The show has been on for a while, they need to keep moving forward with it.

I still like it :) I guess they have to get older and 'evolve'... I'd rather it was still on TV than cancelled... Its the 200th Episode next Thursday in the UK and theres also a special all about the show being shown :)

The Porn Nerd 04-22-2016 09:05 AM

This weird need tv shows have to stay in 'real time' is beyond me. Sitcoms are a fake, made-up fantasy realm, not 'reality'. So when Penny starts saying "I've worked at the Cheesecake factory for seven years now..." or the Indian dude says "I've not had a girlfriend for seven years..." I wonder wtf is wrong with the show? Penny hasn't been working as a waitress for an actual seven years. It's ridiculous. Keep her as a waitress forever duh.

The show also went downhill when the Indian guy started talking to women.

NatalieK 04-22-2016 01:34 PM

it's still a funny show & always has been about relationships, but yes, more so now, as they're all involved with each other as couples :thumbsup

marlboroack 04-22-2016 06:22 PM

Never watched it :pimp

Thanks for another worthless post, idiot.

I also think that it spoke to a lot of people when Leonard was chasing Penny. This really hot girl that was out of his league, dating losers, that he wanted desperately to be with. That is relatable.

Then out of nowhere, they finally connect and she is a highly paid sales rep, where every prior season she can barely handle waiting tables. Not relatable, or remotely realistic.

Something funny and weird about American television and comedies is that every sitcom must have a "MOS" (Moment Of Shit, as it is known). That's where, usually at the end of the episode, someone goes, "I've learned something today..." and it gets all sappy for about a minute. That 'awww' moment. It's an old FCC and Morals Doctrine from the 1950's! And still you see it in every single show, including cartoons like Family Guy and South Park. Everyone in the Industry calls it the Moment Of Shit (MOS) and you can always, always spot it. LOL

The thing is, I bet if they stayed the same and Raj couldn't talk to women, Howard was still horny and single, Leonard Chasing Penny who still worked at the Cheesecake Factory and Sheldon just went on being annoying Sheldon just as many people would bitch about the show saying, "They just keep rehashing the same thing over and over."

I enjoy moments of shit, or even longer periods whenever possible :2 cents:
