Did I miss something? When did .net become more expensive than .com?

Just renewed some COMs and NETs at a couple of registrars, and noticed both are charging about 20-25% more for the NET.

When did NET stop being the little bastard middle child, and attempt to break out? :helpme Is there a reason that NET is suddenly more "valuable" or is the parent registry just trying to make a bit more $ as a fuck you during its initial death throes?

.net

Last year I wanted a specific name, but .com was taken and I knew no way could I afford to buy the .com. So I settled for .net
Domain registers have figured out there's a lot of webmasters out there will settle for .net to get the name before the dot

Noticed this the other day when I renewed .net on namecheap

That sounds plausible.

Most of the .nets that I have are because I just needed a cheap domain, eg for name servers or HTTP content serving, rather than for a website needing strong branding or a memorable URL. Bet there's a lot of those too.
