(CNN)Three officers are feared dead after a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, officials said.

Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish, said authorities were still trying to get a handle on the situation, but added, "The count is three officers dead possibly."
The victims may include police officers and sheriff's deputies.
"There is still an active scene. They are investigating," he said. "Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything."
The shooter is believed to be down as well, Holden said.
"Everything is moving fast and I have not been able to verify everything," he said.

Authorities did not immediately say where the Sunday morning shooting occurred, or release additional details.
But Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L. J. McKneely said "multiple" officers were down. He couldn't elaborate on the extent of their injuries.
The scene, however, is contained, McKneely said.
Since the shooting death of Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge police earlier this month, the department has worried about credible threats against officers.
"We can't take anything for granted any more," East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said last week.
He spoke shortly after police arrested three people they believe were planning to kill police in the city.

I find it very strange, that for at the very least there has been public outcry about police brutally for 2 to 3 years yet nothing was done. Just a bunch of hoopla in the news and the cops just keep shooting people dead, week after week.

Conservatives for the most part see no issue with this, because they don't look past the media. The fact is police are killing an astonishing amount of people with no real repercussions and nothing is done.

Meanwhile some ranchers take up their guns because they get mad when the federal govt won't let them use the land for free and suddenly it's rahh rahh big govt over stepping.

The reason these shootings are now happening, is because people like you turned a blind eye to what the cops have been doing. Now it's boiling over.

Most of the killing were justified. Surely there were a few bad killings, you can not have 100% perfect police force, people are not robots, even bad persons become cops.
The funny thing is that the most outcries is about some serial criminal rushing to the popo or whatever where everything was 100 percent justified. Like in the case of the original dindu mike brown.
Whenever some criminal gets shot in justified shooting, media is stirring "dass waciss" shit. So it looks like it is a problem, while in reality there is no problem in most of the cases. Libby media just twists the facts, race monger, anti police monger etc.

Justified by who? Other cops on internal review board and city paid prosecutors..

The only way to solve this issue, is to have a non biased review if every police involved shooting by a mix of police and civilians of their community.

The days of cops murdering people, a big public outcry, promises of systematic change, then the cops not being charged and back on the streets, are over.

There are black cops. The longer we let things stew & not do the hard work of police department reform & citizen education, the more resentment minority cops are gonna feel, and higher probability of wanting payback, it's human nature! Think of all the activist brothers starting the process of becoming cops so they can get revenge on white folks they pull over. It's because some of us see this is a low hanging fruit scenario, with militarization of the police force and the government pushing the boundaries of their powers while trampling the human rights and dignity of vulnerable citizens.

Usually all shootings are investigated by a state review board along officer's dept. and the state attorney's office. So you want citizens to review shootings and police procedure when they have no idea what hell goes on? Imagine with some of the dumb remarks you've made, having you on the review board. You'd have your head up your ass and wouldn't know what to do.

They've tried civilian review boards at police depts before. It didn't work out and was costing tax payers thousands of dollars for no reason. The people had the city's employment manual and rules and regulations regarding police procedural reviews. They broke the rules, unfairly targeted certain cops based on their own agendas and ended city had pay the officers money because they broke guidelines. So basically getting ex judges, retired cops, lawyers and regular Joe off the street did well... It all came to cop hating 101.

And years of bad shoots? Come with the statistics. Also come with the statistics of black on black, black on white, white on black, white on white, Hispanic on white, and white on Hispanic crimes. And see who wins. Out of respect for the boys in blue. You're out of touch.

Out of respect for the boys in blue, most cops are great people that hold themselves to a high standard and are risking their lives to protect civilians.

The bad cops need to be weeded out more proficiently, before they kill or maim. A renewed code of conduct with civilian re-education needs to happens so all citizens aren't afraid for their life if they're pulled over and cops know there will be criminal penalties if they're trigger happy on a bad day or high stress situation.

Cops are employees of the government paid by the people, for the people, all people.

If you've lived overseas for years like I have you know that cops do their jobs in most western civilizations without guns, and they do their job better than we do in the U.S.

As a Canadian this is terrifying to see - no matter what side you tend to fall on. What goes on in the States has a truckle down effect (or in this case up) on us here in the North. RIP to all the victims of senseless violence that's griping the US right now.
