Robbed by Gun to the Head for Gold Winner Ryan Lochte & 3 Other US Swimmers in Rio

Nothing at all motivating me to ever goto Brazil now. The Olympics are supposed to be a time for a country to shine and show their best! Not Brazil

-----

"And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet ? he left my cell phone, he left my credentials."

U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint while in Rio de Janeiro overnight Saturday, NBC News has confirmed.

Following conflicting reports ? including the IOC denying any incident took place ? Lochte himself confirmed with TODAY's Billy Bush that he and the other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint.

"We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over," Lochte said. "They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground ? they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn't do anything wrong, so ? I'm not getting down on the ground.

Bunch of hooligans roam the streets waiting to pounce on tourists

kane 08-14-2016 05:32 PM

I'm surprised we haven't had more of this kind of stuff happening.

I know the Australian government told their athletes not to go near the beaches after dark. I also love how NBC did a whole piece on the slums in Rio and how they are supposedly peaceful places full of great culture, when the reality is they are shitholes filled with violence.

Most visitors better be carefull for women than for robbers.
They can rob you only once for a few dollars.
But for a child you can pay the next 18 years.

I think that it is wonderful that the world community is contributing to the local youth iPhones...cameras...watches...and cash.

Well needed so bravo. I think that the olympics should be held in Rio every year!

Good times and remember that prostitution is also legal there so another reason to head straight to Rio baby!

best part is the IOC trying to sweep it under the rug at first

Ryan Lochte robbery: Plot thickens at Rio Olympics

The CCTV footage seems routine. Four swimmers, fresh from celebrating their final competitions, return to the Olympic village in the early hours of the morning. They pass through the metal detector, taking items from their pockets - possibly wallets and phones - as they go. They appear relaxed.

But this short, unremarkable clip is now at the centre of an Olympic mystery and a police investigation because according to the four American swimmers - Ryan Lochte, Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger, and Gunnar Bentz - they had just been robbed at gunpoint at a petrol station.

In short; Brazil police says the 3 destroyed a toilet in a gas station while drunk and made the robbery up. Let's see how it develops....

Rio is still a shithole.

The judge making an international incident of this, I'd detaining two athletes, proves Rio is a shithole.

The news showed other Olympic athletes who have been robbed, one beaten with a black eye, another that was kidnapped and forced to take $800 out of their ATM. Rio is a shithole no matter what becomes of this particular case Rio is a shithole.

True, but drama queen got drunk, broke bathroom doors, got in trouble with security and then made up whole robbery story.

2 swimmers admitted they weren't robbed....
Put them in jail, look how they damaged the image of Rio / Brazil.
And how criminal the sportsman from USA are.
If it is not doping like the tour de France for years, thet want to screw people this way.
Maybe ban them for the next games. This is not how you behave in a country hat treats you as a guest.

Rio is a shithole. Rio fucked up the Olympics the biggest ever in history. Russians, Africans, Polish, Mexicans, anyone can fuckup a toilet in Rio and nobody would give a shit poo or two.

Charges should be brought against the security guard who pulled a gun on Olympians, took their money, and scared them off. But no, in Rio the judge blames the Olympians for a security guard pulling a gun and taking their money. Fuck Rio! Rio is a corrupt shithole.

Yes, that is how they framing it now. Saying the security gueard pulled a gun so they had to pay for the damage right away. And than that is so bad , snif snig, cause in ye USA they should have get their right in court. If he pulled a gun, what is just a story, he was right. Else he would never getting his money. Most probably they paid him to shut up, but than started looking for press themselves. In what club have they been? Afraid their boy/girl friends would find out... maybe the story can get more dirty. They should have paid 200 USD and just leave. Else you have to pay the cost, a fine and a lot of bad publicity.

The idea that pulling a gun on someone and making them give you money for something, even if that thing is something they broke, is okay is part of why places like Brazil are considered a shithole to most of the world.

I see the bigger picture. They would have fled away and let the security guard with the cost. So in the end they where robbing someone's salary. And than act as victim if someone like the securuty guard protects his (low) income. The guard would probably had to pay it himself if he didn't get the money. I don't see a gun. I think he just said, or you pay me, or i call the police and you have to pay the damage, get a fine and a criminal record and a stamp in your passport that you aren't welcome anymore. I think that works better than a gun.

Or maybe they showed a gun when the sportsmen got angry. Not strange in Brazil where you have to watch out cause everyone can pull a gun also. Better be the fist before it escalates. They just where plain stupid.

Of course the athletes that did this were being stupid and the people who had stuff damaged should be paid for it.

That said, the idea that the security guard has to pay for this out of his pocket because he couldn't get them to pay for it and the idea having a gun pulled on you is not a strange idea are two more reasons many people think Brazil is a third world shithole.

Totally agree!
I have read one article about one President of a country ordered the police, the entire nation a shoot-to-kill order to any suspected drug lord and drug pushers across the country.
A federal type of government going on.

Any thoughts on this one?
