Crooked ex-lawyer is trying to rip me off on ebay

Sold this guy a fryer on ebay. My listings always state no returns. In fact I have it in bold stating this in the listing. I test everything before it goes out to make sure it's in working order. In fact I wouldn't even let him purchase this piece until I was sure. I spent about two days cleaning it and then testing. There were parts I didn't clean because it became ridiculous really for the price I was selling it at (half the price of anyone else on ebay) but it looked 10 times better than it did in the pictures on ebay.

He emails me the day it arrives telling me there's grease dripping from the back. Keep in mind this thing just got off a truck during the summer time. Obviously any grease on it is going to be dripping somewhere. He informs me that he immediately called the dealer to have someone come out and check it. Well today was the day. Obviously the dealer gave him a laundry list of things that needed to be done because that's what any dealer does. Basically replace every major component.

Now this guy expects me to foot the bill. A dealer bill no less which is more than the cost of what I sold it to him for. So then he starts throwing around he's a lawyer. He shouldn't have told me that because I hate lawyers. Before I even looked him up I had set it in mind I'm about to teach this lawyer a lesson. Well after I give him a beginners course I looked him up and it turns out he's been convicted of embezzlement by several clients and lost his license. Now I guess his favorite past-time is trying to rip off ebay sellers. He's about to get bitch slapped again..

You spent 2 days cleaning a fryer and it was still dripping grease when he receives it?

Yeah it was a greasy fucking fryer and it was pictured that way (picture of it still in restaurant) and priced accordingly but I went out of my way cleaning it. What I didn't clean was the cords which are nearly impossible to clean and they were what was likely dripping grease.

It's been a pretty interesting night of back and forth. This guy thinking he's some fucking genius because he went to law school and I keep catching him in his lies. The funny part is I keep throwing in little phrases like "you be the judge" He literally just now asked me if I was holding a grudge or been litigated against? lol I have yet to tell him I know who he is. :1orglaugh

My reply..

Nope, never. I don't try and rip off my customers.. Are you projecting? :1orglaugh He's probably getting the hint I know now.

Next reply he made was. "I do things properly if it requires a large payment I do it."

My response:
Sorry I won't be paying for you to have a refurbished piece of equipment at half non-refurbished price.. :1orglaugh

You do know that just because you work at McDonalds, you are really not supposed to sell their fryers (Clean or otherwise) don't you?

I paid around $2000 each, new, for fryers when i owned restaurants and you can pay a ton more depending on make and size..

If he paid using Paypal you're fucked.

crockett 08-20-2016 07:34 AM

Sadly, ebay will almost always side with the buyer. This is why so many sellers have moved to Amazon. I rarely sell anything worth over $100 on ebay, because ebay will fuck you. Meanwhile on Amazon it's not a issue selling expensive items.

The thing is you should word your ads very clearly that it's used equipment and may require additional cleaning or repairs.

Nah I've been down this road before with a soup nazi. Ebay looked at my terms read through the messages while I was on the phone and sided with me before I hung up. I would generally just tell him to ship it back in fact I have told this guy to but he keeps saying he doesn't want that. He want's a refurbished piece at half the cost of used, period.

When I first got into this several years ago most of the manufacturers were using the knockoff loophole to keep used equipment off of it so you couldn't list anything. I've heard Amazon caught on and that's changed lately so I may need to give it a try again.

Sounds like the guy is a professional conman, a parasite on eBay, will probably sell it after this

Now that I think about it he may have bought it for the sole purpose of selling it to someone he already had a deal with. I do get that often.. Because he told me one story of why he needed it in the beginning and now the story is a bit different. I'm going to do a bit more digging. :)

What does it matter? You have the money, he has the fryer. If he charges it back then fight it.

There are still many who do this on Amazon. Otterbox/Life proof will try to get you banned claiming you are selling fakes.

onwebcam 08-22-2016 02:49 PM

Looks like he's giving in. He tried to get into "product liability" after I shot down his "warranty" tactic. Both of which I pointed out pertained to manufacturers.

CPA-Rush 08-23-2016 03:05 AM

i purchased an item on ebay last week ... i had a convo with seller before-during the buy everything was ok . in few hours he refund me without specifying the reason! even though my experience is limited with this shop, ebay users seem to list items for sale , buyers wait for shipping then sellers issue refund. but shortly items are re-listed what the fucking point ?

fuck ebay and paypal ripoff clowns .
