What the fuck is the point of industry role beneath usernames?

If when I register I choose an industry role why does GFY show every other user in that same industry.

It's complete madness!

Surely I want to know what other members do in the industry not just copy my choice.

Can someone please explain this, is it just GFY or is this a VBulletin thing?
