The popularity of a complete dick like Trump is a really interesting phenomena. Unfortunately its also fucking terrifying. This is the downside of democracy, the voting populace are a self centered tribal mish mash, motivated by fear and greed. Sometimes democracy delivers the leaders that we really deserve.

I disagree with your assesment of "the liberal media" though, and I also find the constant claims of Trump to be an establishment outsider, not beholden to Wall St, to be one of the greatest con tricks ever pulled.

You hit the nail on the head though regarding Trumps populist message and his core support amongst the white working class male voters in states where manufacturing is in decline. However that will just not be enough. 30 years ago maybe, but you just dont win elections anymore without broader appeal, and you do not piss off whole chunks of the electorate by calling them rapists and grabbing them by the pussy.

This is wrong on so many levels it's not even funny. This fund was set up to help small businesses recover losses from the terrorist attack, and make up for lost sales. Trump didn't suffer at all. There was obviously no physical damage, and no evidence of any lost sales. In fact, just the opposite - Trump's occupancy rate most likely shot up at 100% as companies tried to find new locations to continue.

At the same time, this was set up for "small businesses". This means they make "less than six million dollars a year". Trump claimed he made $26 million that year from that location - well over the allowed amount. And this number too is most likely incorrect - That is a seventy story office building and you just know it made more than $26 million in 2001.

Trump did receive a grant for his building at 40 Wall Street, which was less than a mile away from the Trade Center, but the property was eligible under the grant criteria.

He also did say in 2001 that his properties were not affected by the attack, although he likely meant physically. The grant also provided compensation for economic losses.
