People come to the United States because we are the dream. Nobody suddenly decides "I can make all of my economic dreams come true in Belgium". I've been to Belgium and it's very beautiful there, but it's not the dream hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Many years ago when I worked at Lightspeed Cash one of our staff become a US Citizen. I had helped him prepare for the tests - I used to spend my lunches quizzing him. He invited me to his swearing in and frankly it was amazing. One hundred people or so stood up and pledged their allegiance to the United States. Some of them spoke and told amazing stories about how they lived in their homeland, how they came to the US, and their life now.

No, you could always get home. Its no problem to leave. The point he is making is that once you are in you might as well stay, cause if you leave you may not get back in... Thats the 'revolving door' analogy.

Its kinda what happened to me. I was coming and going every 3 months for about 3 years, and it was getting increasingly difficult to re-enter each time. As my life within the the US developed and I started to put down roots, so the danger and resulting problems of us not being able to get back in if we left increased...

Hence why we eventually just overstayed... Had I been able to leave after 3 months stay in the UK for a few weeks and then just come back to my leased apartment (which was full of bought furniture etc) and my car etc, I doubt we would have ever overstayed.

EDITED TO CLARIFY that we were breaking no laws in the US, and my working online could have been done anywhere in the world, so no jobs were being taken from US citizens by me. Infact in my own little way, I contributed to the US economy and never took a penny from it in any shape or form. The only reason we were there was because at the time, it was the world capital of porn.

So we can build freeways, crossing all over America but a wall cost to much?

if you over ran your visa as many have, the border made it too difficult to return, so people stayed in the US...

well that´s not 100% true - there are some what worked.

1. the chinese wall brings a lot of money with tourism (but nobody remembers who made it)
2. the the german wall was quite lucrative at the end because the pieces of this histiorical blame where sold on ebay for huge prices. (honnecker won a free flight to chile for that)
