Anyone else here think that the movie "Beauty and The Beast" was manipulative and ultimately EVIL?
 

I squirmed in my seat for most of the live action version of the original animated movie.

Maybe I just connect the dots too much and settle for the fact that "hey, dude, it's just a movie" but I really have a tough time with emotional manipulation.

Despite the great songs and dancing, the conclusions are disturbing if not jarring.

Your thoughts?

I think beastiality is legal in most of the world and probably why it absolutely blew out the International box office when released.

The old fairy tale as it is. The older the story is the more parallels with inappropriate content could be found - take ancient myths for an instance.

First of all, it seems historically INACCURATE

Second, it seems to portray TRADITIONALISM / VILLAGE LIFE as necessarily bad, backwards, provincial while the ELITE are well-read, well-traveled and have the 'right view' of what THE GOOD LIFE is supposed to be

Third, Gaston's military service is depicted as backwards and boorish. I find that interesting because enjoying the FREEDOM to think people like Gaston are backwards are paid for by the BLOOD of people like Gaston. You know, people willing to die for their country.

The list can go on and on.

Disney is one hell of a propaganda machine. Is it the larger culture influencing Disney or the other way around?

The real question is...why have you seen Beauty and the Beast? If you have a little girl, then forget I asked.

My wife and I saw it together. She loved it. I had this sinking feeling. Maybe I'm just getting more and more skeptical and cynical as I get older. Either that or I feel 'woke' at some level or other.
