Computer to TV

If one has a laptop with a HDMI output port and a TV with and HDMI input port is all one needs to have is a HDMI cable to be able watch movies on your tv or is there and additional converter needed.

I use Chromecast to stream YouTube to the TV. I assume it works with Netflix.

That's all you need. hdmi to hdmi, you might have to adjust your resolution. But it's pretty plug n play.

Yes, just plug it in. No additional converter needed.

Yep, cable will work fine. Although the resolution of your TV may not be as good as the resolution on the laptop.

Well am getting a HD flatscreen TV so should have pretty good resolution. I was using an s video hook up with converter from analogue to digitaL but the FN key quit working so cannot use FN&F8 to switch over to the TV and in addition the resolution for the S Video hook up was not very good. About like the resolution when video tapes and players first came out. So am doing an upgrade to an HDMI Laptop and HD TV with HDMI. I have a premium HULU account and Showtime.

I sometimes stream a game from my extra workstation PC to a large screen TV. There's an HDMI cable between them, and I use Nvidia control panel to set up multiple displays, with the TV as the second monitor.

This way using your laptop at the same time won't stress out the performance -- just use some bandwidth. Only problem might be the wireless strength and distance.

Thanks for the input guys.

You're good to go, you could still hook up an additional sound system depending on the available outputs your TV has.

Chromecast works great with Netflix. At this point, we watch more Netlifx than cable TV.

same here, the 6ft HDMI links the laptop to the tv so we can enjoy YouTube on a Friday night or whatever :thumbsup

ya, I have a 20ft HDMI cord I can plug my laptop into the front of my surround receiver to use my 55" as my monitor.

I also have a cat5 cord plugged into my tv and stuff so I don't have to deal with wifi on my tv/wiiU/PS3.
