It was only thrown out because he died. If he were still alive he would still be in jail.

Which is the only reason the court did that; because he had not finished the appeals process.

Read a paper or turn on the news someday. This has been in the works since they found his body.

It's a law not many knew about. The news said it's the reason for his suicide. On one hand I understand the law and the reasoning behind it. On the other hand I think if you're found guilty, let it stand, but note in his files that he couldn't appeal. Then again, why can't his lawyer appeal on his behalf? It's all paperwork anyway, he's not needed to testify.

I was watching a sports talk show today and they were talking about this case. In many cases, it likely won't matter if the conviction is vacated after the person's death, but in this case, it could mean millions of dollars. When Hernandez was arrested his NFL contract, as well as endorsement contracts, were all voided. Now that his conviction was voided it could mean millions in bonus and other money that his estate won't have to pay back. That means when the victim's family sues his estate for wrongful death, if they win, there is more that they can end up being paid.

Why is Relic not banned for trashing all the threads on GFY? Email [email protected] if you agree. People should be able to communicate here without hateful obstruction in every thread.

Half the posts in this thread are from Relic trying to derail the thread and insulting people.

He'll start posting with his GFED nic soon, or Coup :2 cents:

His contract was broken when he was arrested; this will have no affect

The lawyer on ESPN seemed to disagree with you, but I guess we will find out one way or the other.

ya, the league doesn't break contracts till the courts deal with it cause some people get arrested and still play for a year before they go to trial.. Now some teams will get rid of players if the case looks solid esp a murder charge but that didn't happen the day he was arrested.

Phx suns had the morris twins playing with them for over a year after they were charged with assault and I still don't think the courts have settled it. They still played this whole year on different teams.

The lawyer on the show said there is an issue with signing bonus money he may now get as well as lost salary. I assume his signing bonus was set to be paid out over a certain time period and when he was arrested/convicted they withheld that/those payment(s). Now that the conviction has been thrown out they may have to pay him that. I'm sure the team will try to fight it, but it will likely come down to what the contract says or what the union agreement is.

Ask 10 lawyers get 12 opinions.

I bet his contract had a suicide clause.
