Looking forward to going behind the Great (Internet) Wall
 

I'm checking out a business opportunity in Shanghai for two weeks. (No, not porn related, duh). No Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

In today's political climate that invades every aspect of life, I'm really looking forward to it.

If ignorance is bliss, then call me blissfully ignorant. No VPN for me. My brother and girlfriend have WeChat and strict instructions to only contact me in extreme emergency.

Last year I went to a Buddhist Monastery in Nepal for a week. No phone, no internet - just self reflection and great conversations with people. When I turned my phone on at the airport I found I missed absolutely nothing. And the inner peace (though not long-lasting) I found was priceless.

You're a wise man indeed but if you weren't that much into business ventures you would be fully enlightened.

wouldn't sms/call be more appropriate during emergency? You may not have internet for wechat, but have mobile reception.

I'm not sure about sms/call. I'm assuming I'll get a local sim card so maybe that's the play. From what I'm told, WeChat is what everyone uses - individuals, business.

I am looking forward to being off the grid for a bit anyway.
