Wish somebody had something like this running today.
Would help keep some sponsors accountable and competitive.

Congrats to the survivors.

It would be of little use cause it's only showing his ratio. We have guys doing 1:5 and others doing 1:5000, if guy 1 would display a list like that we would look great while with guy 2 we look terrible.

exactly !
numbers donīt tell you anything when you do not know the rest of the way to the conversion starting at sources, promotion material and optimization flows.

from all this list just a handful are still active, that says it all.

how many of those sponsors blew out the door without paying their debts? more useful today would be a fucked company for affiliate programs. i thought i saw one a few years ago? gfy seems to be the best record of who fucked who over.

Are those with comparable amounts of traffic, or at least enough to be statistically significant? I think it was a certain man-pretending-to-be-a-milf that posted an awesome ratio based on about 3 sales. :1orglaugh

Wonder if something like (median_clicks_per_aff / median_sales_per_aff) might be more (broadly) accurate than simply dividing total sales by total clicks. (Any simple model is still going to be flawed for outliers, of course.)

that really means nothing...

Yes. Of course you do. As do a few other hardened battleaxes on this board. But GG's didn't post stats in 1997. :winkwink:

I discovered this biz in roughly 2003 when I stumbled onto iFriends. GG's stats helped me understand what affiliate marketing was/is. I remember pouring over those pages trying to fill in the blanks -- trying to pick the best sponsors -- all while not knowing any of the other important variables. Traffic, sources, methods, etc.

Thus ends my self-indulgent nostalgia trip.

The only way stats like GG's could be meaningful today would be if somebody like PikaPoka would publish monthly or annual ratios and EPCs from TPD. Then everyone could plainly see how each sponsor performs compared to the others in that same category.

We may not know his traffic, but his methods are fairly obvious.

Of course, it's all a pipe dream.
There's really no reason for anyone to go to the trouble.
So I don't know why I'm even still typing this.

OldJeff 11-27-2017 06:57 AM

Yep

TGPs, or MGPs, or tubes, or who the fuck knows what was the excuse du jour for stupid fuckers to use why they could not make money in this biz.

some things never change

I have most of the earliest AVN Online magazines and it's a trip to look through them now. Literally 99% of the advertisers in there are no longer around.

I remember those - They where not totally useless - The traffic all came from his site - It had some consistency across progs - Obviously there are so many variables - If a page had lots of Google traffic for example - A little bit of research on the site itself made them useable...
