New season of Black Mirrors is on Netflix.

will have these watched in a day.

2MuchMark 12-29-2017 09:41 PM

I watched the first episode and wasn't really impressed. It started off well but kind of tapered off. It got high reviews on IMDB though so I'll have to watch it again at a later date.

SMALL SPOILER AHEAD:

One thing I don't understand about the first episode is when we are presented with the captain and his space ship, it is shot in a cool 60's retro-style video with some very basic special effects and 4:3 framing. Looked great. But later in the show the retro look is gone and the special effects are now CG VFX and wide screen. I get the feeling they just decided to abandon the look for some reason. Too bad, it was cool!

bronco67 12-29-2017 09:55 PM

Metalhead was depressing, but good.

Bladewire 12-30-2017 12:37 AM

There's supposed to be in episode about robots killing people I'll watch it just for that , probably tomorrow

CurrentlySober 12-30-2017 03:54 AM

i cunt a4d netflix... :(

xStar 12-30-2017 04:40 AM

I didn't like it... no idea why people are looking that

nico-t 12-30-2017 05:18 AM

The show is highly overrated. Yes, there are some 'gems' among the episodes of S1 & S2, but nothing really mind blowing or grabbing your attention. It often looks very amateurish and cheap as well (sets).

You're pretty much wrong about everything you say about anything, so fuck off with your shitty opinions.

I love this show. Creative, well acted and intriguing storyline. Just caught first episode of S4, loved it.

I have not registered that switch until you mentioned.

But when it started I thought - I hope I would not have to endure this poor quality (and sound quality was worse, to match the old times I guess, unless I am wrong about sound quality being deliberately worse there) over the whole episode and this is only for the intro.

So now when you mention, I think this might have been the reason - people would have been pissed at that low quality for longer time than just the intro.
Except for die hard fans like you.

That is my guess.

nico-t 12-30-2017 05:14 PM

because i disagree about politics with the leftwing idiot squad, they're so simplistic and ignorant that their minds are incapable to detach other topics that are completely irrelevant to politics, and react with their primal emotions like apes instead of being reasonable and objective. Leftwing nuts in a nutshell :2 cents:

aztecboi2003 12-30-2017 05:49 PM

6 episodes was just way to short. I wish Netflix would get another season of The Mist though.

bronco67 12-30-2017 06:54 PM

Arkangel is pretty good. Discuss.

mineistaken 12-30-2017 07:37 PM

Are various gadgets that they implement on/in your head is a must in black mirror?
1st, 2nd and 3d episodes had them as a theme.
I though it is too much of that kind of thing (had episodes with similar gadgets in previous seasons as well).
Like a gadget where you either go to some other reality, or you can see stuff, or people can see through your eyes etc etc. Seems overplayed already.

It was probably my least liked episode of the whole series, it was meh and nothing interesting happening at all, kind of a flatline episode. 15 minutes into epsisode I was - when will it start, too much time for the intro already. And it turned out it was not the intro.
By the way I was not paying full attention during the birth (when doctors gathered around the child and mother asked if she was ok), so I was thinking maybe they did something to her that would reveal itself, lol. I was expecting something from that birth scene to come out and kick start the episode :)

By the way third episode reminded me of you and one of your musketeers who tried to laugh at me using "specimen" wrongly and who got owned - in that episode a dude under scientific investigation says "I feel like a specimen". Musketeer redfred should laugh at black mirror for using English wrongly as well :thumbsup:1orglaugh

It's a slow burn episode and will mean much more to you if you're a parent. The opening scene with the birth was the first glimpse into the mother's character and her overprotective nature. You have to watch the whole thing because the gut punch comes in the last minute and makes everything before it all worth it

All I was thinking is how I would NEVER want or use a gadget like that. Kids should be allowed to make their own mistakes and learn from them. All a parent can do is raise their child the best they can and hope she makes the right choices when she's out of your eyesight.

Noticed after watchin' it that Jodie Foster directed it. Wasn't my favorite episode...but raised a few good cautionary issues about helicopter parenting.

SilentKnight 12-31-2017 07:32 AM

Metalhead was just a reworking of Terminator - with a Boston Dynamics robo-dog. Not badly done, though. I liked the use of B&W...gave it a retro Twilight Zone feel.

I can understand that because even if I do not have kids, at one moment I was like "damn, it would be sooo scary to let your child go to school alone like that at such a small age". I would be literally afraid every day to some extent...

I think there was some stuff to think about also, below the surface of just being a straightforward action show. Of course it's obvious that our over-reliance on Ai and computers has taken over the world at this point in the story. Did you notice the houses and cars were also computerized? The dog could talk to the van and then drive it.

and humans are still doing human things to make them lose the battle...like taking at trip to a dangerous warehouse for a box of teddy bears for children. Pretty hopeless story.

and it was also good as a chase movie.

I've found a lot of the episodes have underlying commentary on many things - that's part of what I like most about the series. It's thought-provoking if you go beyond just the stories. You can see how easily technology can go off-the-rails in the near future.

CaptainHowdy 12-31-2017 08:48 AM

The tech on the show is is just a little further ahead than the real world -- but not unfathomable to be seeing this stuff in a few years. Bladerunner is decades away, but Black Mirror is scary close to where we are now.

I don't know about that, seemed even unbelievable to me.

Stuff like you get an implant and your mother can see exactly what you see on her touchscreen + can block your view and make it pixelated if view is "dangerous". Also blocking sound. Plus picking up those things up so correctly.

Seems not that not close, but maybe even impossible.

Or that memory reading thing where they extract full video from your memories.
Not only not close, but agan - maybe impossible.

So to me it seems at very least 100 years from now, nothing close at all :)

I didn't think it was the best compared to some of the other ones they did. I enjoyed the antivirus one they did in season 3 that was interesting and something that could be done today.

I'd disagree.

"Shut Up and Dance" (Teen gets caught watching porn) was a pretty good episode. I thought it was a little boring for a while and I was wondering where they were going with this, but the ending was a total fucking surprise for me. LOVED IT.

"Be Right back" (Girl gets clone of her Boyfriend) was ok. Not great, but not bad. Ending was foreshadowed right at the beginning of the show though.

"Entire History of you" (Implants help you remember every detail of everything) was pretty good. It had a nice slow build-up which I liked. There was 1 scene that made me go "OH WOW! THATS SO COOL! (and sad)". Pretty good Episode.

and of course the best was "San Junipero" (2 Women meet in a club). This episode was beyond fantastic. It was a slow-build with a killer, amazing, depressing ending. SPOILER! STOP READING HERE: And upon watching it a few more times, I saw all of the hints spread out across the show. For example, Max Hedroom and the song he is singing. The arcade game. The Gogo's song. So much thought went into the writing and production of this episode. Very very very well done. Watch it again and treat yourself to a great story.

Also, some episodes are shot differently. "Nosedive" (about "Likes"), is very different from the other episodes. It is shot with very bright, over saturated colours. Everything, and everybody, is clean and perfect. It was done like this for a reason and serves the story well.

If the other episodes look fake to you, try Turning off your TV's High refresh rate / Auto Smooth feature, and watch the show the way it was meant to be watched at 30fps instead of 60. That might help you out.

bronco67 12-31-2017 11:13 AM

The only ones I would avoid are White Bear and The Waldo Moment.

I think they did that to give the feeling we were watching an old Tv show and then it turned out to be something more.

Some of the episodes can be interpreted as a slightly alternate reality...rather than being in the near future. In that episode you're referring - the mother was driving what looked like a current model Kia - yet the capabilities of the implant tech was quite advance from our current reality.

Loved her transparent desktop monitor, tho...heh. Need me one of those.

SilentKnight 12-31-2017 12:41 PM

Just finished watching Black Museum. Well done...like a series of mini-stories within the same episode. I had the ending figured out before it arrived, tho...like several of the other episodes. But a good one to watch.

USS Callister was great. If you knew a copy of you was suffering somewhere, would you care?

Workplace passive aggression gone way off the deep end.

It showed just how lame that guy was....he was so faithful to the spirit of his favorite TV show, he wanted to keep it wholesome. But I think it was also to make sure his victims couldn't enjoy themselves when he was gone.

If I was him, I would make that spaceship my own personal harem.
