Supreme Court rejects Arizona's attempt to deny driver's licenses to illegals
 

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a request to review a decision that requires Arizona to provide "Dreamers" with driver’s licenses.

The court will not review a ruling from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that prohibited the state from denying driver’s licenses to Dreamers, the name given to those who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children and protected from the threat of deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The court's decision means the 9th Circuit ruling will remain in place.

The state of Arizona had argued the 9th Circuit erred when it ruled “an executive branch memorandum can preempt state law.”

The case dates back to 2012, when the Obama administration implemented the DACA program, which protects illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children from the threat of deportation and grants them work authorization.

After the program was rolled out, then-Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer attempted to prevent DACA recipients from obtaining driver’s licenses. About 20,000 young illegal immigrants in Arizona receive protections under the DACA program.

A group of DACA recipients challenged the state’s measure, and a federal appeals court sided with them.

President Trump attempted to rescind the Obama-era program as of March 5, but two lower courts have blocked his efforts to do so.

Last month, the Supreme Court rejected a request from the Trump administration to review a ruling from a federal judge in California stopping the administration from rescinding the DACA program. The Justice Department had asked the justices to consider the case before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals could weigh in, which it declined to do.

The federal judge required the Department of Homeland Security to continue processing DACA renewal applications. But the case involving the Trump administration’s rescission is expected to land before the justices again once the federal appeals court rules in the case.

I think we should allow illegals to have driver's licenses. This sounds completely illogical until you give it some thought. No driver's license means you cannot drive. Sounds about right until you factor in no driver's license means they cannot register a car, and if they cannot register a car they cannot get insurance. This is why insurance rates in Arizona (and California and I am guessing all of the other border states) is so expensive.

I don't want illegals to have a driver's license. But if it means at least some of them will have insurance it's a good thing.

Of course, having all of these illegals register to get a driver's license means ICE can easily find them if needed.

so DACA recipients/Dreamers can get a drivers license. Many of whom work, go to school, and pay taxes

I second what Rochard said except I think illegals should be forced to provide proof of insurance to get their license.

I pay uninsured motorist on my insurance so that I'm not fucked over by an illegal that hits me. So money leaves my pocket every fucking month to protect myself from illegals driving without insurance, it shouldn't be that way.

It is literally beyond unimaginable.
Government office gets a person who gives himself in for committing a crime against said government/country. And instead of detaining him and punishing, it gives out drivers license.

While in normal world said government official should be charged the same way any citizen would be charged f they knew about a crime and did not report it. In ideal world should be charged with treason (as said crime is against the country), but lets not go that far.

Here in LA, they built special DMV's for handing out drivers licenses to illegal aliens. The shit stain that killed my best friend got one of those after being cited 3 times for not having a drivers license, then getting one. 3 months later, he gets drunk and does a hit and run killing my best friend and crippling the passenger for life.

Fuck them, fuck all of them. This is NOT about what's right, this is about increasing the size of the state for democrats and I hope all those fucks that back it die in a fire ball getting hit by one of those illegal aliens they gave a license to!
