I think new languages stem from poor language skills. Just like like all languages.

CurrentlySober 05-04-2018 06:14 AM

I normally just say 'Fucking big hill'...

But yes, I always pronounce the T

language is super interesting to me... are you aware that the southern dialect is a dialect from western England that is no longer used in merry ole just as the 'French' dialect in nolo is no longer used in France... language is a great way to track a people...

for instance Magyar's is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_language -related to Finish... another interesting thing is the relationship between Germanic languages and Celtic languages in relation to 'modern english' everything is always connected somewhere...

Actually, I just said it out loud a few times, and I actually say mounT(in) as in 'Tin Can' - For me to say 'tain' I'd have to be trying to speak in an exceptionally posh, over the top way.

balint 05-04-2018 07:24 AM

Both British and American English says the T, the difference is "tain" or "tin"

cool, I always think BBC, I go somewhere between in-en, as in Tin and Ten. I do have southern cultural roots. i.e. Celtic cultural roots. is your identity more saxon or celtic? interesting stuff to me...

that's a great example for 'English' speakers... I like singers with great enunciation, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles are 2 that come to mind. and that guy in Ramsinne

More interestingly. How do you pronounce pronounce. I say it like pro nounce but you wrote pronunce so I presume you say pro nunce which is a bit weird.

just a typo. I have issue with communication though a keyboard, however I do say pronunciation as in pro nunc e ation

HairyChick 05-04-2018 06:31 PM

Mountin. The only words I pronounce differently are those with R in them, like ‘car’ is ‘cah’.
But ‘perfect’ is ‘perfekt’.

In this area or a little North, they mispronounce many words. New ‘Bedford’ is New ‘Beffa’, wrestling is ‘rasslin’, himself is ‘hisself’, etc

Worst pronunciation I ever heard was in Boston, Cambridge actually. Woman from Medford (Meffa) told me she had eggs for ‘breffasiz’. Breakfasts

As non English speaker, I say mounTAIN.
And I would say mounTIN before I'd say mounTEN.
