I'm not able to judge a man for his words while under torture and captivity. And I'm not so sure he was hiding and crying during the fire, his airplane was the one hit with the errant rocket while he was in it, are you saying he got out of his jet and ran off deck and hid and cried? I also have a difficult time believing a navy pilot can do what he wants willy-nilly after the fire and fly off on a chopper and disappear.

McCain was my Senator when I lived in Arizona. I liked him - he had balls. He went to Vietnam - as a US Senator - and called them "gooks". He said "I hate gooks". He was tortured as a POW and no matter what anyone said he stood his ground and refused to take back the comment.

It was up to other crew members to put out the fire and help the wounded. A hero doesn't go below deck and watch via CCTV, he helps.. A hero doesn't hop on a helicopter leaving the rest of his crew behind and go on a binge because you think your career might be over. (Why would a hero think that unless he caused it?)
