seriously horse is very delicious and healthy meat with low fat an cholesterol. but it is quite expensive. i have never seen a country where horse is not on the food list. Iīve never tried zebra but I know that it is also used for eating. btw. the best original salamis in the world are made from donkey. |
I've eaten plenty of horse in France. They sell it in a completely seperate horse butcher shop - only available there, not in supermarkets or regular butchers.
Makes a very nice hamburger, lean without being dry. |

Can you point me to a donkey salami? |

Piedmont Salami – Italian salami btw. the big luck for the horses is that their meat becomes more tender as older the animal is. meat from a young horse is too tough to eat. that guarantees them a long life. |

British are generally against eating horsemeat, I am a veggie anyway

They used to eat horses back in the old days. I'm told it was very good. And no, it doesn't taste like chicken.
|
During WWII horse meat was pretty common fare here in the US. There was food rationing among other rationing during that period of time.
|
I remember here in Hungary a few years ago a friend used to advertise some old butcher who sold horse sausage... he told it's a very nice meat actually... however I don't think I ever tasted horse myself

Well when a certain country, that just can't stop dropping bombs, was dropping bombs on my country, meat was hard to come by so I found this horsemeat shop and they were always stocked...it was not bad...

I don't like the idea of it, but I have tried here in Spain - Just out of curiosity - It was just OK...
Kangaroo was the best 'unusual' meat I have tried - It was a great restaurant though - They could have made anything taste good..... |

but i assume it is just kind of curiosity how people can eat that. if you look back why horse went out from the western culture you will find out it was the "war pope" gregor III what prohibited to eat horse meat as a christian "law". the real reason was that they had not enough horses for the war against byzantinum. there are a few other religions what do not allow to eat horse meat one of them are the jews. if one watch that from the human aspect and think horse should not be eaten it is just hypocrite because this aspects should be valid for every animal (including fish). so it is nothing else as eating pork, beef, chicken or whatever meat. it is just a question of education and culture to eat it or not. in some countries they eat even rats what is much more logic to kill and animal what have to be killed anyway AND eat it as to just breed animals for food. I personally could never eat it but it is a result of my education and culture and not from my logic. the most (not all) horse meat on the market is from horses what have a broken leg or some other problem (not infection or disease) and the animal would get killed anyway. so it makes even MORE sense to eat it as to eat an animal what was born to end up on a food plate. if we would just eat all the insects we are killing every year we would save so much natural resources and we would have all vitamins proteins and nutrients what are necessary. |

Most likely, each of you eat meat from a horse.
only the majority do not know about it. |

Horse meat I don't mind in salami or sausage
One odd meat I do really like though is goat, makes a great curry, far better than lamb or beef imho Kangaroo is too gamy for me, I'd rather have venison if I'm after a game meat fix. |

there is no difference between life and life and if someone decides not to eat animals I respect it. I eat animals because I could not live without meat. But at least I try to eat less meat and I buy meat only from sources where I know that this animal was treated with the respect that a living creature deserves that dies to keep me alive. in a region in switzerland they was eating for centuries dogs and made some creme from the dog fat. many many people complained that and today it is forbidden. but if you see the REAL history they never breed dogs for that. they used dogs what were in the age to redeem them. so these dogs would die anyway but with their dead and becoming humanīs food they saved another animals life what would have to die if these people would not eat the dog. |

It is very hard to give up meat if you enjoy it, how much I would enjoy to eat a beef burger again after all of these years :2 cents: |
