got a text this morning to go pick it up but it's still make me wonder what kind of world are we living in lol.

My kid ask me a macbook 12 inch gold . She's told me she will need that for school.
All around me they told me apple is top of the line etc... but I have never spend that much on a computer for my self now im buying that for a 12 years old :1orglaugh .

Of course my credit Card security sent me a notification to call in to approved the transaction that been flag as fraud.
No need to say when he ask me if it was me buying a laptop i explain to the agent yes is for my 12 years old daughter.

He start laughing and laughing and start to explain to me this is just the started and wish me good luck
because his own daughter have 28 yrs old and he still paying for her . :1orglaugh

:( Hard to tell her no man , i rarely see her she's the other side of the country and ask barely nothing.

at first the only rates i was finding was $2400+$375 apple care 3 years. Hell no. fuck no. :1orglaugh
my buddy told me to look for refurbished so this is why i jump on that deal with a 1 year warranty.

Sly 07-27-2018 07:27 AM

Nothing wrong with refurbished!

My iMac is turning 4 and still runs like a champ.

Brian mike 07-27-2018 07:41 AM

I think i need to upgrade my desktop and screen for my self :1orglaugh
I have an old hp running window 7 pro. How bad is my situation ? lol.

Sometimes i think she get some help to choose what to ask me you know, an ex going to make me pay for it the rest of my life in anyway lol.

newB 07-27-2018 08:11 AM

Got my mom a MacBook about a decade ago for her first home computer. She had used computers at work for data entry and email, but not for web-surfing, facebook, and the like. Anyhoo, although more expensive than a PC, for simplicity sake it was well worth it.

For that same reason, though, I think the next one for her will just be a tablet. Much cheaper for her needs.

Your daughter doesn't need refurbished she needs the latest there is, and next year she'll require an upgrade, she also required the latest iPhone and an android phone she can hide from you. Start looking at cars now as well, entry level BMW's are good daughter cars!

High-fives, daughter ;)

Are you talking by experience ? :1orglaugh thats shitty List to buy all together LOL

Refurbished it is, she got a tablet last year, and i convince her to get a samsung instead of
an iphone because i don't pay $1000 for a cell that will NOT happen EVER :1orglaugh

I think i just got a heart attack thinking of buying her a Car with in 4 - 5 years from now :(

CjTheFish 07-27-2018 10:08 AM

MacBook is just a status symbol. With what you just spent on a personal laptop for browsing the web and watching videos you could have bought her a fucking super computer.

I had a 12 year old son once.. he's still borrowing money at 32, like "can ya lend me a 50" bullshit.

eyesroll

I'd phone the school they probably have guidelines on what the kids need and maybe have deals or refurbished ones themselves, they gave them out here in Aus a few years back

you're just mad that your daughter loves America! :1orglaugh

Rochard 07-27-2018 01:12 PM

Your child does not need a Macbook Pro to do school work. They need a computer. Any computer will do.

I forget what I bought my daughter - It was some limited edition HP "Beats" with the upgraded speakers blah blah blah. Four years later she's still using it daily.

LOLOLOL, your daughter is a smart lady, macbook 12 is the best of it's kind due to its weight size at 1.89 lbs, it is one of the smallest laptops out of all brands(hp,lenovo, dell) running an i5 core. This means she can throw it in her bookbag or go to coffee shops without breaking a sweat and look cool(you want your kid to look cool without breaking bank, brings up their self esteem). You bought well refurbished, add in 1 yr Applecare, well done
Your daughter will use that laptop well into age 17-18, 5-6 years, $300 per year ,a minimal price to pay for her convenience and envy of her mates

Sorry I do not share this opinion.

We caught our daughter 11, a few weeks ago with tons of porn on her laptop,
that she shared with other girls of her class.

The first things the Kids need are 100 leasons in IT, Security
and how did i handl Social Media Trash before they start with laptops in school.

And for the parents, another 100 leaons to teach
them that kids watch porn with 11 now.

Best Regards

WOW , so sorry to hear this and that very scary :Oh crap.

Spending $500 on a laptop for a kid kind of grinds on you after a while.... Twice this week I found my kid's laptop running on the carpet while she wasn't even home.

Kids want a laptop, a cell phone, beats headphones..... And so on.

Fun part is just beginning , every holiday when you see her,
"hows school , hows the computer ?" She'll be like fine

then troll her , "Told you the Macbook was great, didn't believe me, light in the backpack, dad gets you the best shit, mom wouldn't understand " then parrot back her comparisons, She'll give you this face

Kids are great

kane 07-27-2018 08:18 PM

My brother's kids' school told them to buy the kid Chromebooks. The teachers used them and since they are relatively cheap, when they get broken it isn't as big a loss. Good thing he listened. His oldest went through three laptops in high school and his youngest is a junior and on her second.

dillfly2000 07-27-2018 09:08 PM

not too far from AR headsets being mandatory school equipment.

Tasty1 07-27-2018 09:15 PM

I remember i got an MSX and ZX Spectrum while asking for Commodore 64 / 128.
All my friends had commodore and had great games, learnt programming, etcetra.
After 6 months i had seen the msx / ZX Spectrum and put it in a box...never opened it again.
Didn't had a computer for over 10 years, bought one when the internet started.
I could have made much much much more money if i stared with a good computer and started programming when i was 11...

Now there isn't much difference between computers like it was with commodore / ZX.
But i would buy a laptop that would give her the option to create videos, programming and all other things she might be interested in. If she likes Mac for creative things and using it, it would be ok.

Never paid that much for a computer yourself... than you should buying better computers for yourself also. I had to work on an old Samsung for a few months, when i bought a new ASUS for 1700 euro it was realy great to see the difference. Good computer = more fun. I have a gaming laptop, but never play games. I want a good laptop that can handle Photoshop.

So if you buy something, buy something good. No Chromebook shit. Something she could be creative on. In 4 years she can start working and save herself for a new computer.

If your daughter breaks 3 computers in 1,2,3 years, she don't need a computer, but a kick under the ass.

I would go for an ASUS or other brand. Cheaper with software than Mac's when you learn her how to hack it :)

What did he ever do to you for you to say he should put his 15 year old daughter in porn like an abusive, illegal, evil creature of satan would do?

jesus kids these days... I remember when I was young my family had 1-2 investments a year maximum and we could choose if we want a family vacation, some part of the apartment to be improved or some hardware upgrade for the computer we used in common xD well my family was never rich of material goods, rather internal values... probably I don't truly feel yet how lucky I was with that "setup"... but shit we only got even more broke by the time though xD
