Sunshine and Lollipops

Hey folks!

Seeing DWB's thread got me thinking. A lot of us here remember the GFY of years past. For some reason, we seem to think it was better. Let's remind ourselves what made it better and who made it better and maybe we can bring back some of that "tits or GTFO" charm. :thumbsup

Things I Liked About GFY

- you could say anything, get in a conversation with anyone, and it would be fairly entertaining. It wouldn't ALWAYS devolve into trash talking, but the best threads did. Much popcorn was had because the struggles were between characters we knew and loved or loved to hate.

- you could find someone willing to help. There was easy access to people with industry experience or skills that you needed. Odds were good that they would even reply to requests for assistance or information. Beneath the bluster, most of us were good folks.

People I Appreciated

RedShoe's video skills were awesome and I really enjoyed his posts.

SleazyDream had a great idea going with his Ambush Interviews. It was a neat inside look in an AMA style thread that everyone participated in. Here's one: https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-p...view-elli.html

Quiet had great advice and didn't get involved in shitposting. I always respected him for that.

Now it's your turn. :pimp

Bump because... BUMP!

Elli 11-05-2018 11:28 AM

I want a "like" button so bad.

GAMEIFY ALL THE THINGS!

RyuLion 11-05-2018 11:35 AM

There are great minds that still lurk here. The industry has changed, so I'm sure most are busy with the new opportunities to jump on (before others do).
Although SleazyDream site was great he got trashed/trolled a lot, most of them its from jealousy, I'm sure..

SBJ 11-05-2018 11:47 AM

tits or GTFO, Elli! :winkwink:

Ya, I just remember a different time when CCbill staff posted here and many other sponsors. It seems like these days sponsors are only here when spamming or defending themselves when a poster calls them out.

This board used to be so fast moving that threads started in the AM were on page 2 by noon if it wasn't getting responses.

But even today I still do make deals and get some work done via PMs or email from people that post here but it's just not as open as it once was.

Same here

I think things really changed here when someone would announce a new site and their site would be ripped and up on all tube sites & 5 clone sites within 24 hours.

That stopped sponsors from posting business here much.

Then affiliates became tube owners scraping sponsors sites.

As sponsors died out because no real 2257 companies at the time, affiliates that became tube owners started competing with each other.

That stopped tube owners / affiliates from posting business here much.

Now most the people complaining about GFY are lurkers that don't contribute threads and are pissed they can't glean info from those who don't want their ideas or content stolen :2 cents:

Ryu! Yeah, I took to lurking here because there was just so much shitposting going on. It didn't feel productive. I'm suspecting it happens in any industry as it matures. 15 years ago (WHA?!?) we were all in the same boat, figuring things out as we went. Now there are huge players with actual employees and health plans and boards of directors and there is more stratification.

Sleazy dished out as good as he got. IDIOT. :1orglaugh

Ahem. Valid comments aside, this thread is for ruminating about the positive aspects of GFY.

kthx.

I'm so sorry my bad.

In 2004 I found the prior art that crushed the Acia patent trolls case against webmaster. I posted the info here people were excited. Paul Markham rewarded me (the only one to do so) with $500 free content :thumbsup

People still band together to help each other here even to this day :thumbsup

Scott was troll. And a good one. he fucked with a lot of people here and many of us have emulated his style since to try and carry on the tradition. His provocations are what mostly compelled people to respond, not jealousy. He was a master GFY shit disturber.

agreeing with you! Sleazy helped my partner with some coding or something to get our site images all part and parcel, it was 4 in the morning and my partner was not going to sleep until her got it done, strangely enough, it was sleazydream helped with a few others and my partner got some sleep...

we need to help people more, less stress on each other and appreciate what each of us do :thumbsup

That's so cool!

Shemp was kind enough to give me a job, which got me in the door as an employee type person in the industry instead of a model. I wouldn't be where I am today if he hadn't reached out and given me a chance. There is a lot of kindness here, hiding beneath the crusty surface.

crockett 11-06-2018 10:58 AM

GFY was always full of non sense about everything but porn. It used to be a common complaint since I joined in 2003 that there was too much non business..

Even I had that complaint originally.. I mean fuck. who remembers all the contest whores...

The contests were fun! And once they were restricted to one a month or whatever, it was easy to ignore them. :)

I see nicks in those threads that I never heard of; but that means they are making
money to worry about Paxum.

The truth is our industry has changed. The original crew that made GFY what it was is gone. Some people got run out of the business, others made their money and moved on, and others just decided to do something different. I too remember coming to GFY with an HTML issue and someone would reach out to me on ICQ and help me fix it.

This is why I stopped going to the shows. I go to the shows and I don't know anyone at the show any more.

The people who are still here have changed, grown older, and matured. Politics plays a bigger role in our lives. Our industry has always been political since long before all of us joined the industry. With the recent changes in American politics we are just much more vocal about it.

Mr. Shemp is the bestest. I was a new gallery builder who was struggling and he took time to encourage me. I believe that he gave me a submitter account as well and that was back when those things were pay to play.

I doubt that I would have stayed in adult if it weren't for him. There was one other guy who helped me. Unfortunately, I can't remember his name. He gave me some extra work writing text for free sites that got me through while I was learning the ropes.

I would argue, this is the EXACT reason you should go to the shows again. Fresh people, fresh ideas and concepts. Fresh people to do business with.

Nearly every day I could find some info that would help me to build things better or faster or simply another site to promote. I also could find something to laugh about daily.

If I may be so bold, I suspect you don't recognize people at shows anymore because you stopped going to shows. Just sayin'. :winkwink:

That is so awesome! It's the little things, isn't it? Just hiring someone for a bit job can get them in the door to so much opportunity.

That was from Ski Party, the winter version of Beach Blanket Bingo. That is Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) and Frankie Avalon in the front seat on the right.

Classic camp from the 60's :thumbsup

From the summary on IMDB
Quote:

On a college ski weekend, Todd and Craig pretend to be Jane and Nora, a pair of English girls. Their reasons? To meet girls, and to learn to ski. Along the way, Lesley Gore shows up on the bus to sing "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows"
So many of the beach movies followed that theme where performers would just show up at odd times and start performing ;p
