Years ago, while working for a porn company, one of my employees wanted to become a US citizen and I helped him. Every day we went to lunch and we went over the questions. We did this for months. Eventually he became a US citizen, and he invited me to his swearing in. He explained to me he had no one else to invite, so I went. It was amazing - hearing people tell stories about how they came to the United States with nothing but the clothes on their back and ten years later they are college graduates, married, have kids, own a house, and own their own business.

Wouldn't you want an Immigrant to be interested in politics, and involved in their community? Or does the hate run too deep in you?

there is lots of immigrants in vancouver, and i have always found them to be the most patriotic/civic minded as they try to assimilate and fit in..

i went to one of those swearing in ceremonies as well, it is a really cool experience

You're a good dude. Kudos to you for supporting that employee when they needed it.

To the OP - An immigrant who has lived in an economically depressed, war-torn country might well have a greater appreciation for the freedoms of the U.S. than many born here. It's also good to keep in mind that the current fucked-up state of Afghanistan is due in large part to the actions of the U.S. in the last 50 years, so maybe this woman's experience has given her some unique insight into our foreign policy choices.

Most Americans have no idea how lucky we are. Don't get me wrong, we have our bad points and we've screwed up some things very badly, but overall our standard of living is much higher than most countries.

Immigrants come to our country, and they understand the difference... And they are so happy to be here. Most of them do their best to try to fit in.
