Buying a smashed car, what should I watch out for?
Found a 2000 beetle 1.8 turbo for $5000 canadain, and its not smashed hard, so a bit too good to be true.
The catch, no service book so I cant check the milage and the repairs. The odometer says 40k km but the tires are worn out... so must be at least 100k km. How can I check that for sure, and what other scams should I keep my eyes open for? |
how many women were fucked in there?
|
Check the gap between the fender and the tires, make sure it is the same on both sides. This is a good way to tell if the frame is bent.
|
have a mechanic come with you to check it out
|
A major thing to look for is frame damage
|
Check it here:

I once bought a car with a salvaged title, did not have any probles with the car
|
check the title
the resell value on it will be fucked if you fix it up nice, but the title says its been totalled might not be worth it |
its not even a good deal if you ask me.
damaged cars are a dime a dozen here.. well almost.. a friend bought a 90' BMW 540i from an auction for $500.. he spent another $500 on repairs and sold it for $3000 in a week. |

well, first red flag... a beetle??
hope its not lime! |
I've only seen women driving the new beetles... In my opinion, its a chick car, and should stay that way... guys dont like right driving em around
|
not worth it if you're going to have to spend another $5k to repair it.
if you're trying to get extra money in the salvage biz, get some different cars that will go for sure. just because the tires are worn doesn't mean the car's worn out. may have been a hard driver. does happen. and not all tires are rated for that kinda mileage. tires are rated anywhere from no mileage, the cheapy 30k (mi), up to about 100k miles. just depends on the $$. i dunno about the beetle, but most of the new cars with digital odometers cannot be turned back anyways. the mfr's are getting smarter :) |

Ya the frame is bent a bit but no big deal. Im gonna go on vacation to europe and put a lot of km's on it so i need something to drive and the repair will be tops of $3000 so $9000 CANADIAN for a 2000 beetle... not that bad if u ask me.
Btw yes I will be a guy in a yellow beetle, but only for 2 months then ill sell it to some broad :) |
