Emailing gets broken in lots of NATS programs all the time. By that I mean NATS emails being sent to affiliates (notifications, account change approval emails, etc) aren't being delivered. Probably also member emails.

At any given time, there are many NATS programs with this issue.

I know it's not NATS' fault, it must related to problems/changes with their email servers.

I think it would be a nice feature for NATS:
1. it sends a test email to a central server once a day
2. if the test email doesn't arrive, the NATS admins are notified. They get a big warning in the NATS admin that there are problems with their NATS email configuration

NATS allows you to use any external SMTP.

With a serious SMTP service like SparkPost you can check is messages has been sent and then opened.

It's good that you use something like that, but most NATS programs don't use such paid solutions for these emails I believe.

Also, you could still think of some possibilities when that doesn't help. I could think of some right away:
1. DNS resolving on the NATS server broken, so SMTP host cannot be resolved
2. NATS server firewall issue, blocking the connections to the SMTP server
3. Intermediary routing issue, so the NATS server cannot connect the SMTP server

Noone can think of all possible issues ahead of time, the only way to make sure something works is to test frequently. :-)

NATS program has to configure the most of email templates at least in NATS 3.
If they are not configured by program admin there is no emails for affillates.

That's good to know. I thought emails would be sent with the default template.

That said, it's not the source of the problems at most programs. Most of them already have working affiliate emails, then they suddenly stop working.
