Why is everything spelled the same?

Minute and minute shouldn’t be spelled the same

You're asking on the wrong forum.

People here don't know the difference between to, two, or too. Or your and you're. Or their and they're. Or affect and effect.

I could go on but fuck those people.

and let's not get into the orthographic depth of english... cough, rough, trough and through don't rhyme, but pony and bologna does. the heck were they thinking back then...

A difference? These words sound absolutely identical. Like "its" and "it's" - same sounds but different meanings.

It's not like that in every language?
We have a lot of words like that in Norwegian too

"Gift" means both married and poison.

As long as you have the context you won't be confused by words that are spelled the same, but I agree it's interesting that this is a thing :)

Change a single letter and the pronunciation completely changes. I'm so glad I didn't have to learn English as a second language.

It's not about how those words that have a few meanings. It's about еру different words (they are written differently) that sound the same way.

The story had other things that were not being pronounced right but that’s the most recognized words.
