The Irishman - Netflix

Good movie, but way too long. Had they simply edited out the Pacino / Hoffa character entirely, the film would have been a much more reasonable length, and all the better for it.

What say you?

NALEM 11-30-2019 05:06 PM

^^ This ^^

CaptainHowdy 11-30-2019 05:43 PM

You cannot beat Nicholson's Hoffa . . .

SilentKnight 11-30-2019 06:09 PM

Pesci was great...but Pacino's Hoffa was lacking. Half the time he seemed more like Tony Montana.

Axeman 11-30-2019 06:52 PM

Felt made about 10-15 years too late as well, even with the tech used to make them appear younger, DeNiro still moved liked a 70 year old man when doing a few of his beatings in the early years.

I enjoyed it and I guess that was the good thing with Netflix. Hit pause and resume it. If in the theatre, I would have gotten pretty stir crazy I suspect.

lock 11-30-2019 08:49 PM

I had to turn it off I got bored figured will give it another go as love Joe and Robert together.

Paul Markham 12-01-2019 02:32 AM

I enjoyed it, but no Casino, Goodfellas, The Departed, etc.

DeadFidel 12-01-2019 04:48 AM

The trailer seemed a bit too complex. Will give a try though... I like poo.

todservices 12-01-2019 05:01 AM

It was good, but they are too old man i'm sorry, i don't buy it anymore
when one sees de niro beating up this one guy on the sidewalk, it's sad....

But great music, great scenery, good story, nice 60's cars and 60's feel

I'm sorry i'm getting old myself LOL so it's nothing against their age per se
but when you are 70, it's sad to act in a gangster movie like you are 29

That same movie with good actors in their 30-40's would have been the bomb!

:2 cents:

like watching clint eastwood these days

ruff 12-01-2019 10:57 AM

It's hard to picture DeNiro as Irish even with blue contact lenses. There's a lot of fiction in the movie, but Hoffa was a huge force back then especially with union money. DeNiro's character was made out to be more than he was in real life. Otherwise not a bad movie.

k0nr4d 12-01-2019 11:04 AM

I felt it was a shit movie with a bunch of over the hill actors. The tech used to make them look younger was just creepy looking. Pesci kept calling what looked like a 55 year old man "kid"... Could they not find a similar looking actor?

Reading literally ruined me . . .

RyuLion 12-01-2019 07:47 PM

No spoilers please.

Dirty Dane 12-01-2019 08:26 PM

Actually, it could be longer and more detailed. As a serie. But this was too short for serie, and too long for a movie.

OneHungLo 12-01-2019 08:27 PM

I can't get into anything with De Niro since he's turned into a batshit crazy TDSer. Same with Tom Cruise.

You know, I was thinking about that as well.

I don't fucking get it. They "speak out" but have nothing to gain. Does DeNiro really think that people are going to be all "I'm going to see this movie because he hates Drumph!". Or all those singers etc that are speaking out blah blah. All this does is polarize their fan base. They won't gain any fans because people are fans based on talent and not on political views, and they risk losing some due to basically saying to half their fans "You are stupid because you voted for Trump". No one's going to buy someone's cds or go to a concert to listen to music they dislike because "OMG THIS LADY HATES TRUMP JUST LIKE ME!!!".

These celebrities must really feel that they are important influential people if they think they are changing anyone's mind about anything. I think for most people celebrities are just someone you watch for 1,5 hrs and then forget exist until the next time you see a movie trailer.

lezinterracial 12-02-2019 01:20 PM

I liked seeing Stephen Graham and Bobby Cannavale from Boardwalk Empire.

Stephen Graham as Baby Face Nelson in Public Enemies.

I totally agree. These celebs need to STFU and just do their craft.

I have a Basic Life Rule I wish all humans would make their own.
I don't want to know:

1. Who you pray to.
2. Who you vote for.
3. Who you fuck.

Simple, right? Maybe that's why I'm such a happy mofo. :1orglaugh

why not? he's done it a few times before. Goodfellas, This boy's life

Rochard 12-02-2019 02:16 PM

Good movie but way too long.

I watch Netflix while at the gym, and it seems I went looking for this movie the day before it was released. Instead I watched "Killing The Irishman". The next day when I watched The Irishman I thought it was about... The Irishman. I had no idea who it was really about.

Good movie, but way too long.

3hrs 30mins would be like a series link to me.

I'll probably pass. I don't watch much tv anyway. I should technically cancel my Netflix to be honest...

Too long!

AmeliaG 12-18-2019 11:46 AM

I bailed before we see Hoffa. I usually love gangster movies, but this was unwatchably dull, punctuated with occasional purposeless unpleasant violence.

I mean, kudos on the special effects I guess, but how long should the camera linger on old-man-reads-map-but-we-mostly-cgi-him-to-look-an-indeterminate-age.
