New hobby, what’s yours?

First, I hope you’ve all been well.
I’ve been growing bonsai weed plants. You? Since it’s been a while for me on here, who here does weed marketing?
Come see, and follow, I need feedback for the bonsai plants. Not sure if they’re sellable, or...?
@bonshigh

What are your hobbies and are you monetizing them?

I picked up a guitar about 6 years ago and never put it down.

I love playing with raspberry pi’s too. I’m currently leaning python and node red, and want to make a diy home automation system with automated garden watering using light and soil sensors but so far just tinkering. Nerd!

OneHungLo 01-08-2020 08:33 PM

Those are sweet. great name...definitely very marketable. Trademark that asap

😂 that would be awesome!! I’m actually contemplating building a Kuka style robotic arm (I do spfx in my day job) driven via Pi that would rotate a heart style plant I got growing.

They can, but these won’t.

The plant grows stems and leaves only during its vegetative state, which you can keep in that state indefinitely provided it has more than 18hrs of constant light.

Once the light drops to a 12 hrs on, 12 off cycle, the plant will produce buds.

I’ll keep these in veg for as long as they live. A grow light is a must.

I just bought a raspberry pi to build a Bitcoin Lightning node. Bit of a steep learning curve there.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of low yields due to stressed veg state. Luckily this one isn’t an auto flower.

Suppose i could call "darts" my hobby now. Currently in local pub team and trying to get better and better each week.

I still want to learn a new language aswell but haven't got round to even starting that yet so...

candyflip 01-09-2020 06:56 AM

I started growing microgreens in my basement about six months ago. As of today, I have a small subscription program with a bunch of individual buyers and a few local restaurants that's bringing me about $2500 a month at this point (with nothing but word of mouth referrals), with maybe 12 hours of work each week on the side. It's grown each month and I swill be able to scale this to about $60k -75k as a part time gig...fairly easily.

NYS is primed for Marijuana legalization this year, according to your Governor's State of the State last night. I'll likely partake in growing Cannabis once that all goes into effect.

Nice! I see a lot of robotic projects for Pi's but have never tried one. To me that takes more patience than I have... not sure why.

I have never heard of Bitcoin Lightning, and had to look it up. I thought you meant Bitcoin mining and my first thought was... maybe don't? :). Good luck with your project!

I have a few PI's these days. I turned one of them into a MAME machine for classic arcade games, and then all out and installed it into a full-size arcade cabinet in my basement.

I have another Pi running my home security cameras, and another is my networks DNS sink-hole to block ads.

This project was lots of fun: I connected a 1980's era TRS-80 to my Raspberry Pi!

Check it out: How to build a Bitcoin Lightning node for just $150
It also functions as a regular Bitcoin node.
This is my first time trying to work with a Raspberry Pi, it is twisting my head around trying to figure out how to do this. Everything is very unfamiliar.

That arcade machine looks fantastic. Which games do you have there?
What's the price for something like this if you don't mind to tell me.

I got into cycling and.... refurbishing old bikes.

About six or seven years ago I decided I was over weight and needed to lose weight. I started cycling - daily. I dropped about forty lbs, and in the past five months or so I lost another 30 lbs.

Somewhere along the way I got into Cannondale bikes. One of the most collectable bikes for Cannondale people is the 2002 "Stars & Stripes". Shortly after 9/11 the firefighters from the fire station closest to the WTC did a charity ride from NYC to LA, and Cannondale made them special bikes. The public wanted them so they sold a few thousand of them in 2002. They are hard to find. I found one on Ebay, bought it, and fixed it up and rode it for a few years.... Then I decided to take it apart and rebuilt it with all brand new components - making an older bike into a brand new bike. Since then I've been buying older Cannondale bikes and fixing them up like brand new and selling them. I find it oddly relaxing to be working on bikes in my second garage.

I travel all around the state cycling.

IF you make money with hobby, then it's not hobby any more.

After 20 years of snowboarding, I bought a splitboard so I can skin up mountains in the backcountry. Now I'm happy to hike uphill for 2 hours just to get a two minute untouched powder run.

Nice. Are you able to trek up the mount when you split the snowboard? Do you use them as snow shoes or cross country skiing?

Sort of a mix between snowshoes and skis... With the skins on you can't really slide with them, but for (very) short downhill traverses I snowplow along. I have collapsable poles that I pack up for riding downhill.

You're making me jealous, I'm in Ao Nang for 6 weeks April/May counting down the days, can't wait to get there, and do nothing except strain my neck looking at bikini ass all day.

I did a bunch of small roles for TV, commercials and indy films in LA thru most of the 90s. I miss it but needed a steady career as backup.

Yeah totally... I was a lot more involved with it all from 2007 - 2012 and have just let it go for too long. A major problem is that a lot of the productions left Texas in favor of Georgia and Louisiana due to lower costs, taxes, etc over the last 10 years unfortunately.

If you care to, I'd love to connect with any of the people you know... my email is jay at ynot dot com... or please feel free to send them these links:

https://www.acclaimtalent.com/profiles/jay-kopita/

My range is broad enough and I'm not in it for the money should there ever be roles that I'm right for.

Extra work is the worst. I did it a few times in college before I got my SAG card and then never again.
