Selling and Market size.

Very early on in my marketing career I was given a piece of advice that's so relevant to today's porn market and the last 20+ years of online porn marketing.

Mr Smith invented a better mousetrap, marketed it well, sold it at a reasonble price to allow for a good product and profit. Everyone who wnated a mousetrap bought from him because he was the only seller of mousetraps. He made a $billion in year one.

Year two another mousetrap seller, Mr Jones, came to the market and Mr Smith saw his sales fall by 50%. The next month a third mousetrap seller came to the market and Smith and Jones saw a fall in sales. And so on until there were 100s of mousetrap sellers, the problem was there was no addition to the demand for mousetraps. So everyone cut corners and before long Mr Wong situated in China could make a cheaper version of the mousetrapand give it away for free as a loss leader.

Everyone suffered, except Mr Wong.

Apply this to online porn and you see why we now struggle

Sorry Paul, but if you add mousetraps to porn there's going to be a lot of very sore genitals.

We can't have mice in porn Paul. It's called beastiality and it's a major no-no.

One of the first things I saw on the internet, and it wasnt on a shock site, but a medical professionals discussion board, with a long complex url, was a sequence of photos of a man barbecuing his own penis and sticking a barbecue fork into it. They were discussing the required surgeries needed to save it...

You could also apply this to every single industry.

I learnt this while selling Advertising.

It's why monopolies and patents exist.

Paul, you and I can both remember when selling advertising was as easy as walking the street.

Gosh. How times have changed.
