Amazon Fire Tablets, 8+, 10

I need to get one for some upcoming Asian shows. Anyone have experience, comments, thoughts or warnings?

8+ seems to get decent reviews. I mostly need it for product sample viewing and sharing with other companies.
10 looks good but gets lower ratings.

Thank you for posting any info you have.

Some insights into what they are good / not so good for.

Notably, the lack of 'playing nice' with google could well come into play, if others are using google centric apps and systems for their data...

Quote:

Other platforms, for instance, Nook, offer in their custom systems access to Google services and apps.

Amazon kicks off from the Fire OS almost everything that’s related to Google. And that makes a huge difference.

On the Amazon Fire tablet, you won’t be able to access and download apps from Google Play Store – because there is no Google Play Store app.

Amazon’s App Store offers “Google Keep,” “Google Docs,” or “Google Photos” but they are not mobile apps developed by Google. They are web instances of these services – not a good solution for a dedicated user of Google services.

If you use only the most popular Google services, like Gmail or Calendar, you can still connect these services to the Fire’s native mail and calendar app.

For a more advanced integration with Google services, you will need to sideload the Google Play Store to your Amazon Fire. It doesn’t sound like the most convenient solution.

Just get a regular tablet.

Lucky for me the scope for work is limited.
I am looking at Google compatibility issues. Lucky wife is a total otaku and doesn't mind setting up Google Play connections.
Besides work I want to connect Disney, Netflix and Prime accounts which seems possible but I still dunno if easy as they say.

Porn Nerd, What is a regular tablet? Do you I mean iPAD?

iPad Pro 12" FTW.

My favorite piece of technology.

Regular tablet = iPad or something running a recent version of android. Fire tablets run there own version of the OS which leads to compatibility problems.

Sure you can 'side load' and be crafty finding ways around things, but if you wanna just use disney / netflix etc, at least you are using the actual versions of the apps.

I had an LG TV a while ago, that couldn't used netflix or amazon prime for a few months, as it was running LG's version of the apps - Not the 'playstore' version of the apps themselves.

here's what I picked up a few mos ago (but I got it on sale for $200) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have the Fire 8" but I only use it to play music as it doesn't do the things as good as my android tablet

also this keyboard and cover is nice

Thanks for all the advice and product options. I am still looking for the right tablet.

The one I pick does not have to do a whole lot but I will need to add 3rd party software, things like Skype and be able to work with media, photos and movies.

Things that look okay tech wise are more than I want to spend. I may use this thing only 1-2 times per week.
