Buying Rights to Vintage Movies

Does anyone know of a service that allows someone to purchase the rights to old, nobody cares about, adult (or non adult for that matter) movies? I'm talking about buying to own the rights to the movie, not buying a copy of the movie for me personally (clarifying because google search results yielded a lot of buying content personally).

Thanks in advance.

In my experience you need to find out who owns the movie and then contact them to see
if they want to sell you the rights.

I always thought there was some sort of statute - I am sure there is with books...

My grandfather actually made films back in the 30's and 40's - I assumed it was all public domain by now?....

I don't know if video and audio have different rules.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, looks like I'd have to dig into each production company and track who currently owns it.
The idea was sort of a way to integrate new footage with the original movie. Try to make it interesting. Oh well, probably too much to sort through.

Thanks again for the responses.
