Gloucester's famous cheese rolling contest returned today (Sunday, June 5). Brave - some might say foolhardy - hopefuls competed to chase after a Double Gloucester cheese wheel at Coopers Hill in Brockworth. The winners of the first two races were from the local area. But later racers were won by guests from abroad, including a Belgian. Other contestants came from as far as South Korea to take on the steep slope. The event usually takes place on the second May Bank Holiday. But this year, due to the Jubilee changing the Bank Holidays around, it takes place on Sunday, June 5. The first race was at 12pm. Organisers limited each race to 25 runners. The last race was done by 1.40pm. |
Some people have come an awfully long way just to chase some cheese down a hill!
