Domain parking price hike ?
OK so maybe i missed this or maybe not but i renew/park my domains with Thriftys and up until today there has been almost zero issues. But a week ago i got an e-mail saying a domain was going to be renewed and the price had doubled to almost $20.00 Their phone # is out of order and the guy on the chat said don't worry the rate will be the same as its been for the past few years, now today i see they have charged $17.00 for the renewal.
Did i miss posts about rate hikes in general or is this just this one company ? Any suggestions as to a better company with a simple switching process ? Cheers |
I'll recommend Namecheap. Old and trusted - Not the cheapest, but I'll only recommend what I use - Or any of the more modern cheaper ones... Just NOT godaddy...

Thiftys use to charge $9.49 until this latest rate hike! . |
Well I used to be with godaddy, until they let someone into my account. Someone sent a paper letter in the post, saying they were me, and they were moving across country, and couldn't remember their login, to update the whois as required by icann.
Instead of godaddy contacting me on my VALID email, or phoning in me on one of TWO VALID numbers, they said 'Uh yeah, sure' and let a complete random into my account! Unsurprisingly they caused utter chaos, for myself and for various other websites I was managing for people. Took nearly two entire days of phone calls to get shit sorted out, but I kept my cool and was nice to godaddy staff etc. Once I had it all back under control, I moved all the names to namecheap, where they have been ever since. Again, not the cheapest on the market, but like I said, IMHO reliable and trustworthy. Not that the newer, cheaper companies are not... But I've always been happy, and never had a single problem with namecheap. The Godday story is there to serve as a warning to others reading this post in the future! |

Currently most popular registrars are namesilo and cloudflare.

Thank you for the heads up, very useful information. I will take every word as pure gold...and move away from GoDaddy asap
HostGator sent me a bill for a $50 domain renewal fee. I threw that bill in the trash along with there hosting services. |
NameSilo and NameCheap are both good and have kept their rates low over the years.
