I don't remember the exact steps anymore but I used to connect to the Internet with DOS. I needed a batch file that would load 4 different files, one of them was a TCP/IP driver, and something that would bind something to something else, etc. Once done, a seperate program would dial-in via a Hayes smart-modem. Once connected, I used ARCHIE and VERONICA clients to look around, and of course a NEWS client or 2... Fun!

I remember going from 14.4k to 28.8k and then 56.6k, which was a game changer.

56.6k = 3.36 Mb of data transfer per minute, or 201.6 Mb per hour.

I still have my AOL email address from 26 years ago.

My first modem was 300bps, on a C-64 in 1985.

I fucking loved that thing.

I wasted hours of my life waiting for the images to load...
