FTC eyes easier cancellations for free trials, subscriptions

The FTC's proposed "click to cancel" regulation would make it even harder for paysites to earn a profit. Say goodbye to the rebills, from customers who signed up years ago, that forgot about their subscriptions.

FTC eyes easier cancellations for free trials, subscriptions

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is eying new regulations to make cancelling free trials and subscriptions easier for consumers.

The FTC said in a release on Thursday that its “click to cancel” proposal would require sellers to make cancelling an enrollment more straightforward to help consumers with “seemingly never-ending struggles” in ending subscriptions.

Sellers would also need to provide annual reminders to consumers enrolled in their programs that a subscription is going to be automatically renewed unless the service provides physical goods.

Good idea. There used to be a really shady webmaster board with a great motto.
"Good business, not greedy business"

Unfortunately, that motto was as accurate as Fox News "Fair and balanced"

there´s no easier cancellation than that on Modelcentro websites...

you login to my site, join, paying by card and in the account area, a simple cancel button, it does ask to give a reason, but no need, it´s not necessary.

if correct, Mail is sent out to members and followers of my accounts already, so this wouldn´t make a difference regarding the email reminders too...

:2 cents:

If people want to continue

the customers will still ignore the emails, just like they ignore the monthly email receipt from the biller. i doubt they'll add a provision to report bounced emails.

worst case would be if they forced cancellation after X amount of time. that would kill the paysite business. you couldn't have lifelong fans.

they keep squeezing the money side of the industry, but show no love for the people in the industry. they treat the weed business the same way. they have no problems spending the tax revenue tho.
