Do native portuguese speakers understand written spanish ?

Hello all
My question is for people who speak portuguese as a native language (especially portugalians & brazilians). Do you understand written spanish perfectly ? (without studying spanish previously)

Italian living in Spain and going twice a year to Portugal here...maybe I don't really qualify to answer ;-)

I would say they will understand it but without any previous knowledge (be it study or practice) it will not be perfect. "False friends" are pretty common and can be misleading.

Anyhow it's pretty common for Portuguese to have a basic knowledge of Spanish (TV, music, school and proximity)

Just enough for a booty call . . .

Understanding context is pretty easy but there are lots of words that are completely different so you can easily get a bit lost.

I would say probably yes
