Is having ICQ an industry standard nowdays? What messenger do you use?

I just wonder why so many adult-related services' "signup" and "contact details" forms still have "ICQ #" field? Is it because TooMuchMedia guys put it to NATS' sign-up form template back in 1895 and didn't update it since? :upsidedow

Klen 11-23-2023 09:35 AM

Skype/telegram is some sort of standard. An alternative would be what's app and discord. But none of those solutions were good as original ICQ (when it was still owned by mirabilisis) and original skype(before they been bought by microsoft)

12clicks 11-23-2023 09:43 AM

I'm not sure I still have ICQ on my machine.

TheLegacy 11-23-2023 10:06 AM

ICQ was a huge hit a long time ago as was IRC but today it's Skype and overseas seems to be Telegram. I keep both on my system and have never looked at ICQ in over 15 years.

I totaly forgot about IRC. I was never really fan of it, because it was annoying how you need to register nick for every channel where you joined, sometime even type password and then asking admin to get permission. But giving the current offers, while being old tech seems to be better then anything else.

Sly 11-23-2023 10:48 AM

I think the ICQ mentions are from legacy uses. I see it pop up on various sites as well, but most of them are really old sites. I haven't heard of anyone actually using ICQ in years.

Email, Skype, text and Facebook are how I communicate with most of my industry contacts.

CaptainHowdy 11-23-2023 10:48 AM

E-mail, is like settings things in stone without the chit-chat of instant messaging . . .

adultinnovation 11-23-2023 11:37 AM

I remember when it was ONLY ICQ

the good old days

Retiree 11-23-2023 11:41 AM

I miss the days of ICQ.

NatalieK 11-23-2023 11:47 AM

IRC was like Slack nowdays - private servers/channels for teams as far as I remember

Honestly I don't think so. I was hitting up dozens of ICQ contacts and only once I got a reply, like in a week or two after I messaged :)

But on the other side - I'm eventually registering accounts at paysite affiliate programs and 90% of signup forms have ICQ field :1orglaugh

That's why I'm curious actually :upsidedow

djroof 11-24-2023 11:03 AM

ICQ ??? Damn... old good days...

LetterTwenty7 11-24-2023 11:05 AM

Whatever customers want to use, basically. Skype still holds the #1 position, it looks like it. Telegram is becoming more popular lately. It is fast and easy to use. I kind of like it.

blackmonsters 11-24-2023 12:50 PM

I sell short ICQ

:2 cents:

abshard 11-24-2023 02:18 PM

Someone hacked my icq and wanted me to pay them to get it back lmao....I just made a new one...

I stopped using the icq app a long time ago. I used something called Trillian I think it was called until icq blocked it then I stopped using icq completely

brassmonkey 11-24-2023 03:48 PM

when the russians got it. i lost access like a year later...

Tulku 11-24-2023 05:53 PM

I can't login to the ICQ .. some connection issue .. anyone have same issue connecting?

Rochard 11-24-2023 06:00 PM

A lot of older programs have ICQ on their sties because they put it up there and never took it down.

Skype is what I use most.

As Mr. Klen said, Skype and Telegram are kinda go to now, I'm not sure the last time I logged in to ICQ, though, I see some of the veteran webmasters are still using it.

Myself, I'm also mostly on Telegram and Skype, WhatsApp occasionally too, depending on clients and customers.

Slack and Discord are more like inside company messengers, between team members.

Mr Pheer 11-24-2023 08:39 PM

I don't use any of those anymore. Well maybe Facebook messenger when my family or close friend's send me a PM on there. Good luck getting on that list :)

Email and txt msg for everything else.

Do ICQ still work?
I remember that it was "the standard" back in the days tho.

SageHarper 12-01-2023 05:49 PM

Telegram, Skype, Whatsapp are the three I use most often.

blackchariotnetwork 12-02-2023 03:46 AM

By customers, I meant porn webmasters. So whatever you want to use, it's not a problem for us to install it. :upsidedown

Imagine still using ICQ

LOL

2MuchMark 12-03-2023 08:54 PM

I *LOVED* IRC back in the day. It was easy to use and a good way to make friends. I never liked ICQ much....
