Thinking of turning off water heater, turning off water, and draining lines. Think that is a good idea?

I would call your utilities Companies and ask them for advise. You can also insulate around your doors and ask them what you can put on your windows..

Where do you live? Who do you have no backup solution, in the first place?

Funnily enough, just after reading this post last night, I realised my theremosta had become 'disconnected' from my boiler - Cue a long process of pressing and holding buttons in sequence on thermostat and receiver!

Got it connected and talking to the boiler again, but I ended up staying awake 2 hours later than normal!

grab a halogen heater from your local shops, maybe a little more expensive to run, but just for a few days while the cold hits :thumbsup

Just leave a drip on your pipes

Thanks all, Got some space heaters in the crawl space. Insulated some of the pipes. Gonna leave a faucet dripping.

Planning on getting a pex kit soon and replacing the copper. Less likely to freeze up from what I hear.

Don't forget - A nice big poo in your pants can stay warm for longer than you might think... You know, needs must n all... :2 cents:

Just sayin'... :thumbsup

Where are you at? What are the highs and lows for the day/night?

Consult with the local utility. However you should seriously consider winterizing methods as shown in this YT video.

Pour antifreeze into the toilets, water lines, sink, etc.

Good luck!
