No F'ing way is my power bill $40!

This has to be a mistake and I need to prepare for a correction when I least want it.
I figure that in 3 or more months they will tell me an error was made and I must pay
for their mistake now.

This can't be true.
My hot water heater and air conditioning both failed at the same time one year, and
it took more than a month before I got it all fixed and my bill was still way higher than $40.

I guess I will get a big "double bill" in the middle of this winter when I always pay the most.
And that will be on top of my yearly real estate taxes.

My Christmas is going to suck (Disclaimer : Not like I buy shit anyway. :1orglaugh)

:Oh crap

take a reading & take it into their office, ask if this is correct if it doesnīt match up to the invoice you received :2 cents:

Around here (third world) there is usually somebody that double-checks the initial meter reading before they send you the bill . . .

Mine was over $600 for the month - No way is that correct either - I'm on the phone as soon as they open...

Nah, not going to say anything because then they will find some way to hit me.
They don't do meter readings with a person, it's done remotely.
Just going to wait it out.

Yeah, that's kind of steep unless you have 6 bedrooms or something.

Just pretend that it was what you would probably paid, had they not made a mistake - Say for example you'd have expected it to be 200 - Then pay the 40 and put the remaining 160 away...

Then, when they correct themselves and ask for an extra 160 next time, you won't have an issue finding it. Unless you hid it really well, but thats on you... :)

$40 has to be the cheapest bill of any kind I have ever heard of

The Porn Nerd 09-01-2025 06:06 PM

Maybe it was a special promotion? I know here in New York City my electric (Con Edison) bill has been WAY higher this year.

2MuchMark 09-01-2025 07:44 PM

$40 a month? That's pretty good. Mine is $100.

fris 09-02-2025 05:55 AM

was gonna say is it solar :p

I would think mine was good if it was $100.
Do you live in a house or apartment?

No. I would have figured that one out, if so.

mine is around $25. don't use my a/c (stuffy with windows closed and gives me a headache, love my fans), have solar water and don't cook. used to be $30ish but when the big fridge died I got a half one. that cut $5 off, which is crazy but makes sense as it was cooling whatever air was trapped inside. waste of money and elec trying hard to cool nothing

even my half fridge is half empty. water jugs, red stripes for my adult friends and chocolates for the kiddos. mangoes in the freezer (better than ice cream). for meals I eat out or my friends feed me

just dropped 4k prepping my mom for winter though, between wood and propane. her elec about $150, a big house but well insulated. she is a crazy person who loves living in the middle of nowhere in an arctic tundra (northern Canada, getting cold up there already) so heating vital

@Eddie $600? am assuming the meter reader accidentally tacked his night in another kind of snow storm on to the bill

I'm in New Zealand - This current bill is defiantly an error, it's just me in a 2 bedroom apartment...

I still have the apartment in Spain as well, it has a tenant in it but I get the bill - It's not that bad.....

Where are you living these days?..

mechanicvirus 09-03-2025 01:54 PM

Mine is about $100 but that's the trade off for living in the place that is literally the end game of life.

(this area is ALWAYS featured in movies, tv shows, car commercials, instagram reels about "life is perfect here", any sort of pro-business, pro-capitalism visual aspects like brochures and golf courses. Usually a scene at the end of a movie where people are like "we went through hell and back, now we made it... paradise" and it's this area)

Worth it.

We have solar so.... We do not pay for power.

The first five years we had solar we had a small bill, $50 or $60 a month. We got a new AC unit last year and now we get $50/month back from the power company.

It's nice.
