Visit to New Orleans...

My girl and I are taking a weekend trip to New Orleans July 24th-27th. Are any of you from there? Been there? Have any suggestions on where to stay and/or party? :glugglug

Stay at the Ritz off of Iberville. Almost makes you think New Orleans is clean!

You sure picked the hottest time of year to go.

Get ready to sweat, big time.

The humidity there is unbelieveable.

Wish I could go.

I live in n.o. Definitely stay somewhere close to the quarter, pref. a hotel on canal st. That way you don't have far to go after you get drunk. :)

There's a bar on decatur st. called Molly's that I go to. More of a local place, and they make good drinks.

Cardboard Box 07-12-2003 03:07 PM

I don't care for the pay-for tours, I like exploring things on my own/with a few friends but it's best to kinda/sorta stick with a group for the cemetery tours since they aren't in the best of neighborhoods.

I went to Tulane and spent most of my weekends-when not studying-exploring the historical sections of the city (I love the stories, legends, architecture, et al).

If Molly's makes good drinks...we will have to stop by there for a couple! :glugglug

If we do one..it will probably be a pay tour. We certainly don't want to get lost in the wrong part of town. Another cool link...thanks!

Still looking for other fun things to do and see... any good dance clubs/strip clubs/swing clubs in New Orleans?
Also... any good restaurants that specialize in "Local Regional Dishes"?

Ricks Cabaret is nice and so is the Gold Club and Hustler club (all three are strip clubs). If you go to Ricks, ask for Morgan...she is not the best looking dancer there but she is SO sweet and she will tell you who the freaky ones are...and trust me when I tell you that there are some freaky ones there :)

I always eat Oysters at Felix's on the corner of Iberville and Bourbon. You have to eat Chef Pauls Bananas Foster at Brennans (where it was invented) and you have to stop by Cafe Dumond for begnets at about 3am :)

I went to a new seafood restaraunt the last time I was there (a really nice place)....I think it was called GW Fins....make reservations!

Hope that helps!

Very helpful T! We are going to do as many things as we can in the 4 days we will be there. We are making a list of places to go and things to do so that we have as much fun as possible. You just added quite a bit to our list...thanks! :thumbsup

There are some great places in Baton Rouge to get Gator. Gator dipped in Creole sauce is delicious! I am sure there would be some good places in New Orleans as well. Have fun! It's damn humid there right now but well worth a visit!

I've heard the hotel Le Pavillon is really nice. Stay there.
:winkwink:

CyberBachlor, I was born and raised in NO.... I will not be in town when you are here ( I am going to be in LA).

I am not sure how old you and your girl are, and what you are into - so I will leave the bar scene to others ( thought T's Ricks advice is right on. I think its best club, and Morgan is like my sister. She can put you onto anything)

There is one thing that all people do when they hit New Orleans, and that is eat good food.

My favorite reaturants, and they are in the Quarter.

My favorite reasturant is Brennans. ( You will see a lot of Brennan's XXXXXX the family is big down in NO with food. But you want to hit the ORIGINAL BRENNANS on Royal St.) Everything is great. Need to hit the Oyster;s Rockefeller, and end up with Banana's Foster ( it was invented at Brennan's)

Galatoires is always a great, historic place, especially for creole food. Need a jacket for this place. It is in Bourbon St.

If you need anything else or have specific questions drop me an e-mail michael AT hirise DOT com or post here and Luke can help you out!

Have a good time, and be safe!

SpacemanSpiff 07-13-2003 10:26 AM

I like to stay at the Hyatt next to the Stupor Dome. It's a short cab ride from the quarter, and there's plenty of restaurants and shopping stuff right there, in case you accidently leave your underwear at Pat O's and need to get some more. :Graucho

The Royal Sonesta is great, but a little pricy. Right in the middle of the quarter.

Also, DO NOT MESS WITH THE POLICE. They are generally ok folks, but they don't take any crap, period.

Have a blast. It's a great place for it.

Stay in the Quarter. PERIOD! Especially now in the offseason, lots of rooms at reasonable rates. That way you do not have to worry about cabs or anything. Enough stuff to do in the Quarter to last a weekend. Food, entertainment, bars, shopping, etc....

I really appreciate your input Mike. Since you were born and raised there...I would imagine that you would know best! :)
Sorry to hear that you will not be in town that weekend. We would have loved to have met with a fellow GFY'er while there. By the way...we are in our late twenties. We party but not too hard...we really love wine. We don't do the club scene often where we live, but hope to while down there. Thanks again for your comments...have fun in LA...we will be in LA in a few months...haven't confirmed our dates yet though.
:winkwink:

Thanks for the warning about the police...I don't think we will do anything to piss them off. Would they arrest me if I told them to :321GFY :1orglaugh
