Well, it's been my experience that people who are not all that familiar with how editing works but wants a good program that's fairly easy to understand use Vegas Video.

The current version out if 4.0
It can do almost everything except make toast. And it might even be able to do that..haven't read the manual yet.:)

Depends on what you like to do...

Take a pick from the list..Goes from easy to hard, basic video editing to sfx stuff.

-Sonic Foundry Vegas Video
-Pinnacle Edititon DV

-Adobe After Effects
-Discreet Combuston
-Apple Shake

Depends on your budget, for common use don't even think of getting Shake or Combustion, if you're a total newbie, stick with windows movie maker2.

If you want to take it more serious, go for Sonic Foundry Vegas 4.0

True to a point I suppose although depends on what he meant by editing. Didn't think when I posted it. I was more referring to chopping and changing format than full editing.
