I usually build my own computers. That way I know exactly what's inside, and what software it needs. I haven't built one in a few years, so I may be a bit out of touch with price.

computers are CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP in US.

I paid about $2500 for my Dell PC in April 2000. I think you could buy it there for like $1200-1400.

And Altec Lansing Speakers with Subwoofer ROCKS. I love mine.

price is ok

I would go for a system with a
maxtor drive
and a cpu with at least 512K cache on die

No Miss Mowse, I don't have it yet. But after last night, (I think you know what I mean) I've decided to use this computer at work, and get a new one for myself. One, because it's old, and time to get a new one, and two, so I can have a PC at work.
