Why mpg's? Why not wmv's?
It seems the preferred format for video delivery for most webmasters are mpg's. The question I have is: why not use window media videos (wmv's) more often?
The file size for wmv's is so much smaller (for comparative qulaity)plus the fact the videos can be embedded on on the web page (just add a small wvx file) thus giving you more chance to advertise. Comments please. |
mpg became the "jpeg of video" before microsoft really started pushing wmv.

Wmv is newer so there are still alot of old movies floating around on the net compressed with mpeg codecs.
Wmv IS better... |
it's a compressed format standard used in everything from the internet to sony digital cameras.. dvd's use mpeg2.. i dunno.. it's not going to hurt to use wmv more.. most people should be able to view it..... maybe just familiarity?
|
Yeah, i guess everyone's just.. used to mpg's. Not really sure why so many people still seem to prefer it..

Why mpg's? Why not asf's?

While they are a small % of surfers overall, they tend to be the biggest complainers...WebTV users can only view MPG's....not sure if that's the only reason, but sure it is one factor......

Why do people use mpg instead of wmv? Because people are afraid of change I have been using wmv for quite a while now it beats the hell out of avi (no codecs needed) and smaller file size than mpg with no loss of quality |
