Im about 2 minutes from the World Headquarters. This will be interesting to see how people in Dearborn react.

As a big Ford fan... I'd have to say it's probably a good thing, they need some fresh blood in there.

It's about dame time!

Webby 09-05-2006 09:11 PM

Don't suppose that's much of a surprise. The car industry in the US is "unsettled" and may go thru a few more changes of management before possibly climbing out of the rut.

The cost they have to pay for employee health insurance and pensions adds probably a few thousand dollars to the price of the cars they sell where imports are not burdened with this.

I think things may only get worse in the upcoming months for US car companies!:2 cents:

Stallion 09-05-2006 09:15 PM

very interesting. about time he stepped down.

DateDoc 09-05-2006 09:16 PM

Oh, and while he is no longer CEO he is still Chairman of the board. They hired a VP from Boeing or some company like that. I see it as a good move and hopefully they will pull through a dismal year.

DaddyHalbucks 09-05-2006 09:18 PM

Stepped down... or was forced out?

Slippery when wet, watch for spin..

if you were interested in following the business news you'd already know ...

Basicly they are offering something they can't really afford... and signed contracts already.

They can't compete with the asian market right now.

Kinda agree - it takes a "miracle worker" management team to turn major companies around in a relatively short space of time. Chances are the first, second and third sets of new management will terminate as well - even if they are doing a good job - simply because of the baggage from the past (all corps seem to collect this) which they need to dump asap.

Meanwhile, leaner foreign car manufacturers are establishing/increase market share - that's some competition.

Simple. They are in very bad shape due to the unions. The unions are costing them way too much money with health care, protecting lazy workers etc... Not saying all their employees are lazy, but they cannot even fire someone who is not doingt their job because of the protection they get with the unions. They will also have to compete with China in their turnaround attempt this time. I think they will not be able to rebound like they have in the past as easily due to the Japenese's dominance and the soon to come Chinese automakers who are gearing up for run at our markets and everyone elses for that matter. Just my 2 cents.

Oh great, this means that the 2007 Ford models will now be on backorder and not be delivered to the dealers till sometime in 2025.

As much as I hate the stock market, I will be picking up Ford and GM shares soon. The price is right... they arent going down... just getting a bloody nose... way too much A/R behind them to go under.
